ALBANY >> With his re-election campaign underway, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is riding high in the polls, but don’t tell that to Assembly member Steven McLaughlin, his self-described loudest critic.
“I would point to a multitude of problems, but I think overwhelmingly he’s a bully,” McLaughlin said last week. “He acts that way and it’s catching up with him.”
McLaughlin, a Rensselaer County Republican, compared Cuomo to Hitler and Mussolini after the SAFE Act gun law was pushed through the Legislature in January 2013, later apologizing for a poor choice of words.
A year later, he says voters in his district remain livid with Cuomo, most recently for announcing a new program to provide a free college education to DOCCS prison inmates. He has an online petition to oppose the plan and his Facebook page features mock college t-shirts from “SUNY Rikers” and “Attica A&M,” part of “Cuomo’s College Convict Collection.”
“It’s just that arrogance of Andrew and the inability to listen to anybody else other than his core group of people who apparently just tell him what he wants to hear or don’t ever say no to him,” McLaughlin said. “But he’s irritating a heckuva lot of people around here.”
McLaughlin traded barbs with Cuomo again last week, challenging the governor on Twitter after news that Ilion, N.Y.-based Remington Arms would open a new gun factory in Alabama, with 2,000 new jobs. The company, the oldest gun manufacturer in the U.S. and one of the few bright spots in manufacturing in New York, makes guns that are banned under the SAFE Act...

McLaughlin should not have apologized. Hitler disarmed the Germans under the guise of ‘security’. Cuomo is a fascist dictator. Really not much difference.
I disdain this Cumo as much as his idiot father.
Has this guy been asking for solar subsidies? We need cheap energy. Cuomo should be hammered for blocking Marcellas shale gas, IMHO. Fracking for oil has been done safely since the 1940s.

“Regarding those who support the 2nd amendment you asked; “Are they pro-assault weapon?” That is a political term coined by anti-gun progressives. In an unprecedented show of opposition to a bill you jammed through the legislature, over 50 counties, Sheriff’s, over 300 towns and villages, the VA, millions of New Yorkers and every single police officer I know have opposed the SAFE Act. They are not extremist’s Governor, they are our fellow citizens.”

Since November, New Yorkers have watched their electric rates almost double; according to the US Department of Energy, New Yorkers paid the highest electricity rates at the end of 2013 of all states in the mainland US. Yet, I haven’t heard you decry the extreme regulatory climate cultivated by your own appointees that’s made New Yorkers pay more than 50 percent the national average to light their homes?”
“Absent the reforms that were promised at the time the tax cap was created, our school and property taxes continue to climb. New York is more secure than ever in its position as having the highest such taxes in the nation, your rhetoric aside. Will you speak out against the extreme unfairness of the unfunded mandates with the same gusto that you attack the views of Catholics, Orthodox Jews and Muslims?”
“New York presently sits near the top of all the wrong lists. Taxes, spending, corruption, and cost of living–just to name a few while we are at the bottom of the list on business climate, economic and personal freedoms among others. Unlike the religious and political views of private citizens, these are things that Albany actually has the ability to change and while you’ve paid lip-service to them, you’ve done virtually nothing to change any of them.”
“Perhaps you should address the “extreme” exodus of our friends, family, co-workers, and businesses as they escape from New York for better opportunities, lower taxes and more freedom? The fleeing of New York has accelerated during your tenure.”

Cuomo’s pot plan would allow 20 hospitals to dispense
Cisneros left office in a scandal involving lying to the FBI over payouts to a mistress, Cisneros subsequently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and though never sent to prison received a pardon from Bill Clinton in 2001.
Andrew Cuomo took the HUD reins and not only furthered Cisneros and Clinton's policies but greatly expanded them.
Henry Cisneros moved the GSEs toward a requirement that 42 percent of their mortgages serve low and moderate income families. Andrew Cuomo raised that number to 50 percent and dramatically hiked GSE mandates to buy mortgages for the "very-low-income."
These bad loans were purchased and sold throughout the secondary market and the pyramid grew and the bottom collapsed resulting in the subprime crisis we are still reeling from today.
In 2008, the Village Voice published a compelling report detailing Andrew Cuomo's policy decisions "that gave birth to the country's current crisis."
The report touched on how Cuomo's 187-page rules "opened the door to abuse." The rules explicitly rejected the idea of imposing any new reporting requirements on the GSEs. In other words, HUD wanted Fannie and Freddie to buy risky loans, but the department didn't want to hear just how risky they were.
Cuomo got lucky-- New York voters were distracted by his gubernatorial opponent's racist jokes; and failed to see the actual harm to the minority community directly caused by Cuomo's policies..
Cuomo's top aide said, "We believe that there are a lot of loans to black Americans that could be safely purchased by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac if these companies were more flexible."
NOT TO MENTION MASSIVE BAILOUTS W/ OUR TAX DOLLARS Andrew Cuomo doubled down and had this to say about his HUD standards, "GSE presence in the subprime market could be of significant benefit to lower-income families, minorities, and families living in underserved areas."
How's that working out for the minority community, where foreclosures and unemployment rates have hit the hardest as a result of such failed policies and blatant social engineering?

He may be loud but will not run for Governor.
His wife won’t let him, he would lose his cozy job in the assembly.
I like Steve but we have to face reality here.
The more people learn about that, the more they will look unfavorably on Cuomo.

It is astoundingly easy to steal from a federal housing agency; (a) if you control millions of federal tax dollars, (b) you're willing to screw innocent taxpayers, (c) govt fraud doesn't bother you, (d) you have political connections.
Yeah true. It’s just too bad they have the majority in the state. I’d love to see the state divide into two.
