La.’s Landrieu looks for independent, GOP support

Democrat Mary Landrieu’s quest for a fourth Senate term will turn on whether she can attract just enough support from independents and Republicans to win in this increasingly conservative state.

The daughter and sister of New Orleans mayors, that’s been Landrieu’s re-election strategy since 2002, when her donors included a Baton Rouge physician named Bill Cassidy—now her Republican challenger in this year’s midterm elections.

Replicating that winning formula could depend on what matters more to voters: Landrieu’s growing ability to help Louisiana’s oil and gas industry through her recent promotion to chairwoman of the Senate Energy and National Resources Committee or her unapologetic vote for President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul. …

Translation: Find a “libertarian”, secretly fund him/her, then siphon off enough of the GOP vote to win.

She IMPOSED OBAMACARE upon Louisiana citizens, there was a war fought once that was mostly about slavery, I’d say the people of LA don’t want to go back to that system!! NO Thanks!

Why should anyone in Louisiana want to vote for her is a mystery. Not only did she vote for Obamacare, but her vote was bought with special favors from the White House.

LA has an open primary system which prevents that sort of thing. All states should adopt it.

The people of Louisiana are the only ones who have a voice in this, and I hope they make it heard, and work on behalf of her opponent(s). That said, wouldn’t it be great if her opponents TV ads were filled with the sound of ducks?

How does an open primary stop a third party “libertarian” from bleeding off Republican votes in a general election?

Mary has one chance of pulling this out: If 125% of registered African-Americans vote, and she gets 145% of their vote..

Hey good folks of Louisiana,
please don’t continue to look foolish by re-electing Mary Landrieu.

Exactly!

She votes lockstep Democrat for 6 years and then she wants to run as someone who is only concerned about Louisiana and not politics.

LA has an open primary system which prevents that sort of thing. All states should adopt it.

The trouble with the open primary system is that everyone and his brother can throw their hats into the ring. When you have half a dozen candidates splitting the middle range of the vote you wind up with the two extremes going into the runoff. That's how Edwin Edwards (the crook) wound up running, and winning, against David Duke (the racist). More votes were collectively cast for those candidates in the middle, who were eliminated by the open primary, than either of the two finalists drew.

You raise a question: Who is running against her? You can’t beat somebody with nobody.
