SAN ANTONIO God must have had one heck of a powdered wig, or former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay would have made a lousy history teacher.
The Sugar Land Republican made news this week when he voiced his concern that the government is becoming secular because "we stopped realizing that God created this nation, that he wrote the Constitution, that it's based on biblical principles" during a recent television appearance with San Antonio Pastor Matt Hagee.
James Madison, the lead author of the United States Constitution and the fourth president of the United States who died in 1836, could not be reached for comment.

It seems to me that if God had written it, then it wouldn’t have needed to be amended 27 times.
Your grandfather is correct.
They were basing it on Christian concepts that are laid out in the Bible - they wrote it as (mainly) men of faith. Being inspired by Christianity and being divinely inspired are different things.
Of course, you probably know that and were just funnin' and trying to get under some Christians collars with a outre' comment that might be used as a sneaky way of saying that believers are idiots.
Apparently, he didn't "learn" you on how to spell "too".
Apparently, no one taught you intelligence, or irony either....
Okay, which one was that, who is Christ and what does he or she have to do with affirming the "God"?
No.
Which one ?
None of them
Why ?
Because all of them are constructs of humans who found it necessary to somehow explain a reason for their existence.
None of the above. I would consider the whole concept ludicrous.
Read "Gulliver's Travels" and get back to me.
In case you haven't noticed, the Bible is mostly hearsay - second hand reports with no corroboration.
There is no evidence of that.
Huh?
Maybe you should get that one translated again.
The exact genesis of that inspiration may be a subject for debate, but digressing into some secondary topic probably distracts from the discussion.
I'd hate to see a debate about the existence of God being used as a proxy for attacking the inspired excellence of our nation's founding documents. Part of the miracle of our Revolution is that such almost perfect results were achieved by such a diverse group of imperfect men.
Surely these men, who transcended their time and circumstances, were instruments of God.
Here we go again. Which God?
Hmmm, a resurrected Savior is no evidence?
No matter. You are demonstrating the free-will God gifted us all with. What you do with it is on you.
God is a gentleman and does send souls to hell for vengeance. Instead, He accepts that souls decision to be separate from Him.
Conservative atheists perplex me. You want the benefits of a moral and just and free society and reject the very one that provides the basis FOR that society.
What construct explains YOUR existence.
Christ claimed to be the Son of the God of Israel, and proved it in his resurrection. In doing so, he confirmed the truth, that the one and only god is GOD, otherwise known as Yahweh.
My mother was female. My father was male. They mated, probably several times. I was conceived, born and did the same.
What is your point?
You have God's permission to continue to be perplexed.
Huh?
Poor guy. You must struggle.
