Police in Georgia on Friday served a warrant for a probation violation at the trailer park home of a man and his son, a 17-year-old aspiring Marine. In the process of serving the warrant on the boy's father, an officer fatally shot the teen.
His crime: according to his attorney, he did nothing more than answer the door while holding a controller of a Nintendo Wii.
Police in Euharlee, Georgia - about 50 miles northwest of Atlanta - however, claim that Christopher Roupe pointed a gun at the female officer when he opened the door, which prompted her to fire a live round at the aspiring military man.
No witnesses reported seeing the boy holding any weapons, and authorities won't say whether a weapon was found at the scene.
'It just doesn't add up,' Cole Law, who is representing the Roupe family, told wsbtv.com.
As for the claim that Roupe was holding a gun, Law says he's seen no evidence supporting the officer's claim.
'We don't know where that statement came from. The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand. He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest,' Law said.....

This came up yesterday .... concensus has the cop tried, convicted and executed.
Yes, the Wii Controller truly is an assault weapon..../s
I believe the story that he had a WII controller. But...
If you knock on a door and they ask “who’s there” and you don’t reply, I would EXPECT someone inside to answer with a gun in their hand.
But did he point it? Or give any indication of trying to use it?
Standing there with a gun in your hand should not be a death sentence. (even though he wasn’t)
She needs to be charged.
Meanwhile, local police were desperately trying to canvas the troops for an appropriate 'throwdown' to display.
Back in the day the fastest I could draw and fire with any accuracy was ~ 3/4 of a second. Assuming her speed was similar, that would have been plenty of time to recognize that what he was holding WASNT a gun. If she came to the door with gun drawn its a different story.
Obviously the officer THOUGHT he had a weapon and reacted but unfortunately in the wrong way. Put yourself in her position having just “accidentally” killing that young man. She will NEVER be the same.
I know of an police officer that HAD to kill a crazed man who had already shot two officers and to keep the man from killing more people. He has been haunted by that NECESSARY killing since that terrible day some years ago. Killing someone is not like TV, it’s REAL and permanent.
If a gun had been found I guarantee they would be displaying it on every media outlet in the community. This was out and out murder.
What do you expect when cops are practically given a free hand in such situations?
Well, at least she went home safe to her family that night.
She is alive...and should be in prison for manslaughter.
Golly, why should any murderer be charged with a crime? Following your logic, every perp must feel just awful about his or her deed and that’s punishment enough.
But the poor dear had to explain the tear stains on her cheeks.
Frankly, I don’t care what that officer’s feelings were after she shot the teenager. She screwed up - badly - deadly.
The police should produce a real weapon or a reasonable facsimile that isn’t a game controller that can substantiate this officer’s claims. If not, then she should be charged and tried for manslaughter - minimum.
Further, the purpose of the ‘raid’ was to get the father for “probation violation”....doesn’t sound to me like that dire of a situation to warrant a hair-trigger killing of a teenager.
I’ll be happy to throw the lever to open the trap.
There is literally NOTHING that can justify what the cop did. Even if he DID open the door holding a gun (which he didn’t) it is not against the law answer the door holding a gun. She committed murder pure and simple. And will, no doubt, get away with it.
I am becoming strongly of the opinion that we need to disarm cops and limit them solely to night sticks, tasers, and pepper spray.
Really!!!
She will be 1000 times SAMER than the kid who she has deaded.
Think of all the things that she is now doing and can do and will do that her victim cannot do.
That reasoning is truly hollow --
She needs to hang.
