Police in Georgia on Friday served a warrant for a probation violation at the trailer park home of a man and his son, a 17-year-old aspiring Marine. In the process of serving the warrant on the boy's father, an officer fatally shot the teen.
His crime: according to his attorney, he did nothing more than answer the door while holding a controller of a Nintendo Wii.
Police in Euharlee, Georgia - about 50 miles northwest of Atlanta - however, claim that Christopher Roupe pointed a gun at the female officer when he opened the door, which prompted her to fire a live round at the aspiring military man.
No witnesses reported seeing the boy holding any weapons, and authorities won't say whether a weapon was found at the scene.
'It just doesn't add up,' Cole Law, who is representing the Roupe family, told wsbtv.com.
As for the claim that Roupe was holding a gun, Law says he's seen no evidence supporting the officer's claim.
'We don't know where that statement came from. The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand. He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest,' Law said.....

If a Wii controller that looked ANYTHING LIKE a gun had been found, I guarantee they would be displaying it on every media outlet in the community.
The cop needs to go to jail, at the least for negligent homicide. Whoever trained her needs to be fired. I'm thinking that cops are currently being trained to fire if anything even vaguely LOOKS threatening.
And the young man that this officer killed will never be the same again.............................
“Put yourself in her position having just accidentally killing that young man. She will NEVER be the same.”
She’s better off than the boy she murdered or his family.
She needs to go to prison.
At the least, involuntary manslaughter.
Apparently, there are many options available and some do look authentic to some degree...
. . . plus, probably, a 'hate' crime.
Because some animals on the farm are more equal than others.
Judges need to make clear that "I was only following training" is not a defense in cases like this. More to the point, making that statement should ALSO trigger an indictment of her trainer.
Give them enough time and they will produce one or more, drugs, and probably child porn on their computer.
Wait a minute, I’m just seeing there is something about this story that doesn’t make any sense. Aren’t the police supposed to SAY that they’re the police when they knock on the door? It says she didn’t answer when the kid asked: who’s there?
This is the first account I’ve read where there is any doubt he had a game controller and not a gun, but some people will come to the door armed if they don’t know who is there.
Hey, I’ve lived a pretty ordinary life and that’s happened to me twice, out in the country but not, you know, in the wilderness.
BTW, was this cop there alone, or were others with her?
It’s one reason why I think the father should retain a first class law office specializing in police abuse cases - to keep that from happening.
We’re not talking about Chicago or LA or Detroit or any northern police department here. They are limited here in Georgia.
Given the absence of descriptive information about the “officer,” one is left to conclude that she is an affirmative action hire—In other words, a daughter of Obama. As such, she will be fiercely defended.
I reserve the right to alter this opinion as new/additional information becomes available.
I bet she don’t feel near as bad, heck I will bet that she don’t even feel bad but that is neither here nor there, as the kid she murdered. She intended to shoot someone at the first opportunity and the kid just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, she has street creds around the station and soon will be decorated for her bravery and promoted. While the kid will be lying cold in his grave for committing what crime?
Ping, Ping, Ping
Not unless they are a cop or politically connected.
If that is the case then why would police send a youngish female rookie to serve a warrant for a probation violation all by herself.
If that turns out to be true then the police chief needs to be fired.
No, probably more like:
- Has been to recruiter
- Has past tests
- Has a good enough GPA
- Has no criminal background
- Doesn’t use drugs
- Is keeping excellent physical condition
...like many 17 year olds that have made up their minds they want to be a Marine.
I don’t care what the situation “might have been”, this is what happens when police are militarized and believe they are above the average citizen. They seem to believe that peoples rights stop when they think so. Obviously this woman was a problem waiting to happen.
RIP young man, condolences to the family...what a damned waste...
So, by your self holier than thou standards, only sub humans live in trailer parks? I know many decent, lawabiding, honest, hardworking individuals that happen to live in trailerparks. That is, I thought I did until this morning. By your standards, they are the scum of the earth.
