At 5:00pm Pacific Time, Ethiopian Flight 702, a Boeing 767-300 was flying over Sudan when it started squawking 7500. The transponder code, is supposed to indicate a hijacking.
(snip)
The flight, operating from Addis Abba to Rome has been confirmed by Rome Airport not to have arrived yet. As of now, it is over France, but has recently taken a steep northeast heading.
Based on flight tracking, it appears the plane is headed to Geneva. Emergency crews are standing by.

It is still a weekend/early am, for the Western world? Reporters are not known for doing heavy lifting.
I guess they finally figured out that hiding in the wheel wells was not a good idea...

Thanks
I pulled up the government TV channel in Ethiopia

Seem to be talking about something very different.
One of their symbols looks like a Klingon symbol. lol
ph
Ethiopian Airlines’ own site showed it landed (prior to this landing discussion). And the next day’s flight hasn’t taken off yet.
Hmm, I wonder if they run the tracking system for UPS.
Thanks to you, we were aware of it before the plane landed.
I'm glad I'm not on that aircraft...
It’s one way to brag about on-time records.
There’s more coverage on freerepublic than on anywhere else. Bing and Google have ONE link each when hijacking is searched. No news organizations at all..
Reportedly, they flew eight circles around the Geneva airport before landing low on fuel. Other reports say one of the engines had already flamed out.
Is it really landed? Or is the http://www.flightradar24.com/ETH702/2ba40ab just screwy? It looks like it is going through the landscape, and not on runway?
nice!
The telemetry is still going as far as I can tell. If it has lost an engine, the odd vectoring, crabbing I see would be as result of this?
Airspace around Geneva now closed. All flights are circling or being diverted. United 148 from New York, scheduled to land in Geneva in about 25 minutes, just did a complete 180.
According to flightradar24, several fire department units are on scene.
Reportedly, it landed at 0600 local (00:00 Eastern) on runway 05L.
Thanks
There’s an interesting flight I first noticed just north of Lyon heading for Paris that’s showing ‘No call sign’.
Why does EA’s website show none of this?
