RAND PAUL: SECURE THE BORDER FIRST
Big Government ^ | 12 Jun 2013 | MIKE FLYNN

Posted on 02/15/2014 4:11:46 AM PST by neverdem

In a speech on Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul outlined his views on immigration reform. Acknowledging the need for some legalization process for the 12 million illegal immigrants already here, Paul stressed that border security had to come first. Under Paul's plan, legalization wouldn't even be considered by Congress until the border was secured. This contrasts sharply with the approach outlined this week by Sen. Rubio, who said legalization had to come first.

Paul's plan would direct the Border Patrol and an Inspector General to certify to Congress when the border is secure. To verify that the border is secure, the report would have to be approved by Congress. Once that is accomplished, currently illegal immigrants could apply for probationary work visas.

This process of legalization, however, wouldn't happen all at once for the 12 million illegal immigrants. Each year, a bi-partisan panel would determine the number of work visas available. Congress would also have to annually review and re-certify that the border remained secure...

I’m with you. Rand Paul is a remorseless liar on the order of Obama only without the charisma.

Rand Paul will change his politics in the course of an afternoon if he thinks it will further his ambitions, even if just for the duration of that same afternoon.

He is like Huckabee without the fat.

This is just a feel good measure. The illegals aren’t coming here for the pretty sunsets, they’re here for jobs and the bennies. Cut that off and you remove most of the incentive and many will self deport.

There are some here who are here because of the godawful political and crime situation down south. And I’m not at all keen on deportations of those who are here because being in our slums beats the hell out of being dead in Mexico.

But there is a solution to that as well. And ironically, eric holder provided it. Its about time we saw the wisdom of sending lots of guns down to Mexico. Not for their corrupt government, but for the citizenry.

Lock the barn after the horse has been stolen. Brilliant thinking, Rand.

Rand is only correct about the half that you spoke of. The part about making illegals legal and any other perks for illegal invaders is just wrong.

Acknowledging the need for some legalization process for the 12 million illegal immigrants already here,

There is an easy way to get them to self-deport, one that has a long-standing record of success in American history. If bounties were capable of eradicating passenger pigeons, they can get rid of illegals too. The key to protecting the civil liberties of Latinos is to make sure there are heavy penalties for false arrest.

I am shocked at some of the opinions here on Freerepublic we see these buffoons( Politicians) throw Americans under the bus, and folks here who are low information voters are ready to throw the American Worker under the bus for the likes of Rand Paul.

It is very disturbing.

If you take 2 minutes to do any research, they would see Rand Paul has time and time again said he supports Amnesty.

We are on the verge of Collapse of the USA and we are taking about Amnesty?? and or Immigration?

God Help Us.... and refer to my tag line................

Chi-Town huh... well just read my past posts on FR and there are some 10’s of thousands... and you will see that I am against any legalizing of illegal invading enemies and I think our borders should be sealed under penalty of death. I also want every business that hires an illegal to be charged and fined and the management jailed. LEGAL immigration only... enforce the laws on the books NOW. Put the Military on the border with SHOOT TO KILL ORDERS... if needed. ZERO TOLERANCE! Rand is right on many things but absolutely wrong on immigration... Seal the Borders yes... BUT NEVER reward illegal invading enemies... ever!

Here are the links, from this year, where Rand Paul clearly lays out his own Amnesty plan for 2 million illegals per year, based on a "Certification" from a Pro-Amnesty congress that the border is "secure". No Fence, No E-Verify, No punishments for ID Fraud, and all the other misdemeanors and felonies committed by the Undocumented Democrats he wants to pardon.

SECURE THE BORDER FIRST..that might take a couple life times to reach that goal. They have had over 28 years from 1986 to 2014 to secure the border and 28 years later they are still trying to secure the borders.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

Visa enforcement was also part of Paul’s plan.

Visa enforcement is in the Gang of 8 plan. The US-VISIT law passed in 1996 was supposed to solve the visa overstay problem. It is why we have machine readable visas. The problem is enforcement, not the lack of laws.

Definitely enforcement is the big problem. IIRC the Paul plan also included additional funding and technology upgrades for the Visa enforcement side.

At this point, the House is right to just say "eff it, Obama can't be trusted to enforce anything." Paul's certification plan was an attempt to address this but with Obama being so lawless it's almost pointless.

But it's also true that the law needs to be changed so stop issuing so many Visas to hostile nations in the first place.

Visa Enforcement : I believe our greatest national security threat is our lack of security at the border. On 9/11, 16 of 19 hijackers were here on "legal" student Visas but were not in school or in the states they were supposed to be in. Ten years later we are still not policing who we grant Visas to. We gave a Visa to a Nigerian who had made two trips to Yemen, bought a one way ticket with cash and no baggage and his dad tipped off the US Embassy that he had been radicalized. I propose a moratorium on Visas from about ten rogue nations or anybody that has traveled to those nations. I would keep this in place until our government proves they can manage intelligently our Visa process. Source: www.randpaul2010.com/issues (12/29/2010)
