The House passed a clean debt ceiling increase Tuesday granting President Obama power to borrow as much as the government needs for the next 13 months, after House Republican leaders surrendered their longstanding vow to demand concessions in exchange for any debt hike.
Unable to muster his own troops, GOP Speaker John A. Boehner had to turn to Democrats to provide the votes to pass the legislation, which cleared on a 221-201 vote. The bill now goes to the Senate, which needs to pass it before the end of the month or else the Treasury Department says it will run out of borrowing room and face a market-rattling default of the governments obligations.
Mr. Boehner said he was left no choice, but said voters should take their anger out on Mr. Obama.
Its the president driving up the debt and the president wanting to do nothing about the debt thats occurring, [who] will not engage in our long-term spending problem and so let his party give him the debt-ceiling increase that he wants, the Ohio Republican said.
Democrats hailed the vote as a victory and heaped praise on Mr. Boehner, who they said put the country ahead of the tea party wing of his own Republican caucus by going ahead with the vote.
The final tally saw just 28 Republicans join 193 Democrats in voting for the increase. Two Democrats voted against it, along with 199 Republicans.
Once again, the Republican Party and their caucus has shown theyre not responsible enough to be ruling and governing here, said Rep. Joe Crowley, New York Democrat.

I won’t be voting for any RAT nor any RINO and Boehner can GTH.
Yep. Sen Cruz just commented something to the effect that the House just gave 0 a blank check.
A blank check gift and Democratcare fully funded.
Now that all the chips are off the table Boehner and McConnell will talk a big game. The whole charade is pathetic. I am glad the solid conservatives in the House told Boehner to shove his kabuki.
GRRRRRR!!!!!!! Not one red cent for the RNC’s phone talkers!
There ARE noble exceptions - Ted Cruz, Trey Gowdy among a very few. Money for their campaigns & nobody else’s.
This party needs to cease existing.
this is not a fractured GOP
Clearly, the majority voted against his wishes.
Now we need this same GOP vote to vote him out of leadership
Good. That is the EXACT attitude every conservative should have. No excuses, no fear, no more.
I have my $10 down with a witnessed wager...the other side was most generous and he is putting up $10,000. Yes 1000 to 1. The wager is: There either will be no Presidential election in 2016 or the 2016 election will be postponed by the President of the USA owing to emergency circumstances.
The good news is that I may well win. The bad news is that I may well win.
The wager is: There either will be no Presidential election in 2016 or the 2016 election will be postponed by the President of the USA owing to emergency circumstances.
Why would the Dems want to postpone an election when they are winning? Doesn’t make sense.
Apparently they gave him 13 months with no limits on the debt. That is pretty much a blank check. I was outraged when they gave him 4 months without any limit, and now this? He's already added $7 trillion to the total debt - at that rate it'll be at least $1.5 trillion MORE by the end date.
Unbelievable.
There was no choice. Realistically, in an election there were no good options for Republicans.
The President and the Democrats want to spend. Let ‘em. This is their legacy.
The GOPe is no better than the Democrats, and this kind of things proves it
Boo frickin' hoo, grow a backbone. Your day is coming, Boehner -- I think GOP congressmen, after the next election, should do ANYTHING to deprive you of the Speakership -- and that includes voting for Nancy Pelosi!!
This is exactly the same thing that is going on in the Texas house of representatives, which is 2:1 Republican, but the Democrats elected the RiNO speaker who puts Dems on important committees and lets them snuff conservative Republican bills willy-nilly.
Just 11 Texas Republican legislators voted for this guy, Joe Straus, for speaker, and the great majority of Texas voters are totally frustrated -- by a guy just like Boehner. The main difference is that Straus has gone the extra mile and worked to redistrict conservative GOPsters right out of the legislature, just as if he were a liberal Democrat.
“Boehner and his lieutenants are totally useless.”

What would have really been funny is if the republicans put out a press release:
“We were going to try to tie the debt ceiling increase to a delay in the employer mandate, but we were told that it would make us look like tools of big business. But then Obama did it for us anyway, so we figure we got the better part of this deal after all....”
Thanks for the list.
Just damn.
