Rep. Tom Petri (R-Wis.) said on Tuesday that an increase in the 18.4 cents per gallon federal gas tax "resonates" with a lot of members of the House Transportation Committee.
Petri said while speaking at a "Safe Routes To Everywhere" event at the Capitol on Tuesday morning that lawmakers have heard from truck drivers who are volunteering to pay higher taxes on diesel gasoline to help improve the condition of the roads they drive on.
"When we had our initial hearing, the Trucking Association came down and said 'they're not in the business of raising cost for their members or making life more difficult for their members, but they supported raising the diesel fuel tax on the truckers because they wanted to have a first rate, efficient transportation system," said Petri, who is a member of the GOP's leadership team on the Transportation Committee.
"It would cost them if they didn't," Petri continued. "They looked at all the different alternatives as the way to fund the system, and they thought the fairest way would be to do that. That resonates with people."

Additional taxes always resonate with big gov’t dirtbags.
Alarm bells resonate too.
Recall when this was last raised, 1993 by Clinton and Dem congress. Then they got booted 1994 election.
The truckers incorrectly assume the tax hike money will be used to improve the roads. More than likely, it will be used to expand the welfare state.
I hope he gets his bell rung, that resonates too.
I suppose that this nitwit has never heard of the phrase: “TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY”?
simple response: drive as little as possible.
Higher gas taxes resonate with truckers, eh?
I dare him to walk into a truck stop and shout out THAT proposal.
If these fools actually think that the $$$ from a fuel tax increase will actually be spent to improve the roads - they need electric shock treatments.

Not mentioned of course is that the ‘big operators’ will absorb the costs at first and then when their competitors go belly up they will then pass the expenses on to their customers. It’s how Crony Capitalism rolls, folks.
Wonder where they found truckers dumb enough to ask for more fuel taxes, and dumb enough to believe the money will be used for roads?
We have a winner !!
You know exactly what will happen to it...down the bunny hole goes the cash to but votes of the indolent.
They love other people’s money. Locally, they are pushing for rail that goes 25 mph for billions of dollars. Time to call somebody. We have no Congressman Young any more. Just Rubio.
