This will make more sense if there are jobs for those that want to work.

As we’ve seen in Eastern Europe, once you’ve destroyed a country’s work ethic, getting it back again ain’t so easy.

The intention is to destroy this country and build it up as a communist paradise.
Don’t doubt me.

There is no possible excuse for children ever going hungry in a country like ours. In the town I live in however, there are children who eat mainly and in some cases only at school while money from food stamps and other govt. programs is spent on drugs. There are other kids who eat over weekends only due to the efforts of my church which packs food packets for them with instructions to hide them from their parents.

A reasonable welfare program, which the United States has never yet seen, would provide food, clothing, and shelter for those needing it, but no money or anything else fungible. People would be told that money comes only from work.

Great piece, but he really messes it up at the end: the US welfare state isn’t going to end with a “whimper”. At all.

I was in a corporate training class on leadership several years back and one of the class members was an African (can’t remember which nation). He went on this beautiful rant about how he just couldn’t understand how American blacks could be so work-averse, and why they criticized HIM for being educated, having a good job and career, wanting to be successful etc.

You could have heard a pin drop in the room when he was was finished. Even the native born American blacks were silent (altho silently murdering him with their glares)

The father of modern liberalism, FDR, never disputed this. As he warned in 1935, welfare is "a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit."

Even the grandfather of the "Progressives", Teddy Roosevelt had this to say…

The need that the average man shall work is so obvious as hardly to warrant insistence.

But the average man must earn his own livelihood. He should be trained to do so, and he should be trained to feel that he occupies a contemptible position if he does not do so; that he is not an object of envy if he is idle, at whichever end of the social scale he stands, but an object of contempt, an object of derision.

We must ever remember that no keenness and subtleness of intellect, no polish, no cleverness, in any way make up for the lack of the great solid qualities. Self restraint, self mastery, common sense, the power of accepting individual responsibility and yet of acting in conjunction with others, courage and resolution - these are the qualities which mark a masterful people. Without them no people can control itself, or save itself from being controlled from the outside.

The man's foremast duty is owed to himself and his family; and he can do this duty only by earning money, by providing what is essential to material well-being; it is only after this has been done that he can hope to build a higher superstructure on the solid material foundation; it is only after this has been done that he can help in his movements for the general well-being. He must pull his own weight first, and only after this can his surplus strength be of use to the general public.

That picture of the homeless men is like something right out of FREEJACK. This is a mostly obscure 1992 movie that's a futuristic and depressing vision of the envisioned 2009. It stars Mick Jagger, Emilio Estevez, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins.

This movie is frightenly on-target. I'd put it on the short list, along with The Time Machine, Brave New World and Idiocracy for a real good guess about the future.

‘Taxpayers are rebelling’
I wish that were true. So many are unaware of the size and scope of our situation that they report dutifully to work and spend their precious resources on the latest fad.
Not enough Ants. Too many Grasshoppers.

Capital Strike.

That argument doesn’t wash. There may not be ‘jobs’ but there’s PLENTY of work to be done.
They should harken back to the old adage:
“Find a need and fill it”
That was popular during the worst recession EVAH in the early 80’s. Many took to starting their own businesses (including us) and creating value, thus adding to the real wealth of this nation.
Once I heard Obama say that much of this nation’s wealth is illusory. I almost thought at that moment he understood our problem.
