CBS Sports ^ | February 10, 2014

He hasn't been behind the wheel since 1992, but there still is only one King of NASCAR, and when Richard Petty speaks, the words carry some weight.

On the subject of Danica Patrick's chances of winning in her second full season behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car, Petty is quite clear.

She has fared better than many who have tried to go from open wheel cars to the taxi cab. I think she will do OK on Super Speedways this year, but it will take another year or so before she is competitive on the 1.5 mile and shorter tracks.

Aside, NASCAR is better off with her that without her. She has a large fan base and sponsors love her.

I prefer Christmas Abbott myself even with tattoos, now she is NASCAR’s real badass. Is like maybe at most 115 lbs and can handle the pit stops as well as the 200 + lbs men who typically work there.

The same could be said about almost 2/3 of the field.

I count 16 different winners in 2013, 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Standings

Statistically, that’s probably true for most of the drivers. If Danica wins I’ll respect her as a driver, irrespective of gender. But, when toasting her victory, I’d happily...nevermind

She only finished in the top 10 three times in 2012.

B++ body, B- face, D- driver compared to “the boys” and those are the facts, or close.

All that said, and having a 28 year old successful daughter, I admire the hell out of her getting out ther with “the boys” and going up to 250 mph in the middle of 40 other cars doing the same thing. A lot of us keyboard jocks ain’t got the balls to do that!

Richard The King had it exactly right.

Maybe she needs to suit back-up with that “muscle suit”.

She’s tiny in several respects.

Do you know where she went? I read that she left MWR after the Bowyer/Truex fiasco last year. Haven’t heard anything else.

The same could be said for about 30 other current NASCAR regulars too. Patrick doesn’t really stand out as particularly bad or particularly good.

Michael Waltrip went something like 800 races before his first win and that came with considerable help. Derrick Cope won 1 race in his entire career and that’s more wins than many guys get.

Danica Patrick doesn’t drive her Lamborghini because of lack of cup holders and trunk space

It doesn’t surprise me that NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has a Lamborghini in her possession. What does surprise me is a recent article stating that she doesn’t really like to drive it anymore. Patrick bought the car back in 2007 and while she enjoyed the vehicle back then, she changed her tune as Danica found the car to be impractical: “I got it originally because I had a 645 BMW and it was a convertible,” she said. “It was the first car I ever bought because I had always gotten cars through teams or deals.” “I just needed something more practical,” Patrick said. “It sounds stupid but there are no cup holders in my Lamborghini. The last straw for the car ended up being in 2009, when Patrick went to pick her sister, Brooke from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and had some issues with her luggage: “The last straw was probably having to pick up my sister at the airport in a Lamborghini,” Patrick said. “I couldn’t have felt more stupid. I’m serious. I felt so stupid. “She’s got bags. I don’t have a trunk. I’ve got a briefcase-sized spot in the front of the car. I have no space.”“It just didn’t work very well,” Patrick said

She only finished in the top 10 three times in 2012.

I'll bet there are a dozen other drivers who didn't finish in the top 10 at all that year.

Kyle was no King but he did cross the finish line before everybody else 8 times in his Winston/Sprint Cup career
