Sandra Fluke first gained national attention when Rush Limbaugh called her a slut on his radio show. During an appearance on MSNBCs The Ed Show Thursday to discuss her bid for the California State Senate, Fluke agreed with Ed Schultz that Limbaugh may have actually done her a favor by bringing her that extra exposure.
As a Georgetown University law student in 2012, Fluke was initially barred from testifying on contraception to an all-male Congressional panel by its Republican members before ultimately testifying to Democrats on the issue. She argued her school should have to include contraception in its health care coverage despite any moral objections it may have.
Following Flukes testimony, Limbaugh called her a slut and a prostitute on his radio show, adding, If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch. He later apologized to Fluke for his insulting word choices.
I think Limbaugh did you a favor by putting you out there like that and I hope you understand where Im going on that, Schultz told Fluke today. I mean exposure is very important, people now look to you in a big, big way for leadership on some very pertinent issues.
I agree with you that exposure is important, Fluke said in response, because it lets us shine a light on important issues we need to be talking about.
On the issue of a congressional run, which had previously discussed, versus the State Senate campaign she settled on, Fluke said she just wanted to go where she think can affect the most progressive change.

I cannot decide if Rush is stupid or bats for both sides. But, it was dumber than a box of rocks for him to make her a star. And all these years he bragged about how well he knows liberals. Ha!!! Males can be every bit as much a slut as the female... and obviously if Fluke was wanting her contraceptive costs covered she was not messing with another woman.
“When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” - The man who shot Liberty Valance.
Exposure is about all this woman has to offer.
RE: Exposure is about all this woman has to offer.
And I beg of her, please don’t go beyond this kind of “exposure” :)
Fluke is running for the senate IN CALIFORNIA she will probably make it, with or without any help from Rush.
You have the same problem Rush does: inability to admit error.
She’s correct, he did. And, in return, she is doing the same for our side by reminding everybody she requires $9,000 per year from you and me to keep her in condoms because she’s, well, a slut.
I love all the free advice Rush, who has about 20 million people listening to his show at one time or another each week, gets about this from people who probably wouldn’t know what to do with 15 hours of airtime if they had it.
And, he’s smart enough to know he’s getting what he’s paying for.
Yeah, for Rush it is all about his money. He made Fluke a 'star' because he personified the lying accusation that Conservatives 'hate' women. Nobody but nobody would be talking Fluke had he ignore her demands. Does government insurance cover Viagra for old men? The Bob Dole pills?
I don’t begrudge Rush Limbaugh his income, as good conservatives shouldn’t. That’s coveting, in my book. So what if he makes good money at what he’s doing? It is a good measure of success, and it’s a shame you can’t appreciate that because you’re jealous of his income.
His primary interest is indeed entertaining, it’s not making us “feel good about ourselves.” That’s what liberals do.
This is backfiring on Rush....

No, it is not; he has gotten and continues to get much attention from it, and that is what is important to him.
I am not the one fixated upon his income. I just got tired of hearing about who he smoozzzzes with and that he only will hang with people who are the best at what they do. Bully for him. The devil is the best at what he does.
It was clear she was talking about oral contraceptives, and she said: Without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school.
It was typical liberal histrionics.
"Can" cost, meaning at the very extreme, the most expensive brand of oral contraceptives, at the most expensive source.
"During law school", meaning over a period of approximately 32 months.
That's approximately $94.00 per month for the most expensive oral contraceptive at the most expensive source As a liberal, always use the outlier when quoting cost to be born by the 'disadvantaged.'.
It's the way liberals talk. $3,000 sounds a lot worse than $94.
However, Fluke never said how much her contraception cost.
Fair enough. I’m used to people speaking harshly of him because he’s successful at what he does. His father was probably the most surprised person in the world about that (he did live to see Rush go National, and he’d been saying for years he wouldn’t amount to anything).
You are correct.
You failed to mention her “testimony” was not before the Committee (and wasn’t Testimony), but in the Committee room loaded with Rats to make it look like a real hearing, when it was not.
If Rush's intent is to get attention, then his addiction to oxycontin (or whatever it's called) was "good" and "constructive" on a par with his declaration that Fluke was a "slut."
Same thing with any politician, left or right, who states that an obese person is a "fat hedonist." An obese person is surely that by definition, as much as a promiscuous woman is a "slut" by definition.
I believe that was the point Rush was making. Those of us who really listened to the entire conversation instead of hearing it second-hand after distorted by the media know that.
I've mentioned that repeatedly on other threads.
I've also mentioned why she wasn't allowed to testify before the Committee.
The Democrats were to provide one witness to testify before the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee, per standard procedure. The Democrats named Rev. Barry Lynn, head of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, as their witness.
There is a House rule that a witness must be named three days in advance so that the other party may vet him or her and do research on his or her background and expertise.
At 4:30 p.m. on the day before the hearing (some sources say 4:45 p.m.), the Democrats announced the substitution of Sandra Fluke for Rev. Lynn. The Republican said no. It violated the three-day rule and didn't give Republicans enough time to research Ms. Fluke. She wasn't allowed to testify and for good reason.
If Rush's intent is to get attention, then his addiction to oxycontin (or whatever it's called) was "good" and "constructive" on a par with his declaration that Fluke was a "slut."
And what if Rush's intent is none of the above? Rush has no "intent" or crusade going on - he is presenting his political commentary on the news of day from a purely conservative perspective.
It's clear to me you never heard the original show that sparked this debate, because if you had you would never have presented your absurd "antecdoctal" example.
Why isn’t Sandra just embracing her inner slut?
Sandra Fluke was in a rut,
She decided to become a slut,
Night and day she slaved on her back
Reaching for condoms she bought by the stack
Let’s face it folks—she’s just a nut!
