Plans to celebrate Black History Month with a lunch of fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon did not go over well at a private high school in Concord.
Administrators at Carondelet High School, an all-girl Catholic school, are apologizing to students and parents this week for proposing a menu that some complained perpetuated racial stereotypes, NBC Bay Area reported.

Plans to celebrate Black History Month Why do they need a whole month?!? You can count the number of Black Americans that significantly contributed to American history on one hand. And that's not an attempt to be snarky, that a simply statement of fact. In fact, if your child goes to public school, look at their curriculum next black history month. Odds are it will be Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, Martin Luther King and maybe Thurgood Marshall and Obama. Any others mentioned may have been important in their fields (athlete's, musicians, etc) but hardly changed history.

I eat fried chicken and watermelon...didn’t know I was being racist for doing so. If I were a black person I’d be pissed some idiot is claiming I am offended by food.

Offended by stereotypes of blacks, one poster comments that it is like the racist cartoons Tea Partiers pass around among themselves. (Stereotyping is okay when they are doing it of Tea Partiers).
I actually saw a post once that showed all kinds of vile, truly vicious racist cartoons. It was posted as an example of what conservatives pass around. I am on many conservative sites and never have seen anything of the kind. I have no idea where the person even dug up the nasty images, or what possessed them to do it.

Not to mention chitlins and blackeyed peas...

I don’t think we need a month. The media celebrates that 365 days per year. Oops, make that 365.25 days per year.
I will however vote that watermellon and chicken idea as a lack of common sense.

I was born in July and on my birthday we ALWAYS had watermelon. Plus, I love fried chicken and cornbread. I guess that makes me a “white cracker” right?

Is it racist to eat turkey and corn at school to celebrate thanksgiving ?
Is it racist to drink green beer on saint patricks days?
is it racist to be offered rice and chop sticks when eating a Chinese or Japanese meal?
Is it racist to be offer spaghetti at an Italian meal? I don't see the issue here at all.
