DOD staff on military flight delayed for hours by US Customs

What was expected to be a routine stopover at Bangor International Airport for a plane filled with returning U.S. troops and defense contractors Sunday night instead became a frustrating ordeal for many of those aboard.

For the 102 U.S. troops returning from Afghanistan and Kuwait on Delta flight 8964, getting off the plane was fairly routine and featured a hero’s welcome from the Maine Troop Greeters in attendance.

It was a different story for the 112 Department of Defense contractors — those hired to fly drones, do intelligence analysis, fix computers and other jobs — some of whom were kept on the plane for more than seven hours as their baggage was methodically inspected and cleared through U.S. Customs.

They should have just spoke Spanish and say Viva Mexico...and would be waived right thru

If we can overly harass US citizens...we can seal our borders and deport all illegals

DOD contractors are supposed to be issued Red Passports that allow them easier egress.

Sounds like Asian torture. Death by a thousand cuts, or maybe Chinese water torture. Where is John Wayne?

AK-47`S WERE BROUGHT regularly right thru San Francisco airport in 1965-1968 by returning G.I.`s,- not a wink from nobody COZ IT WAS NORMAL THEN,

-I did military transport for home-bound G.I.`s.

Now the anti-American ABBYNORMALS and perverts control our govt.

Let`s take it BACK!

Those were the days (just like after WWII)...

the delay had more to do with the verbal confrontation between two contractors and a CBP officer, who responded by “being obstinate and slowing things down.”

I. Don’t. Care.

You’re not in the military. You’re a government employee. You shouldn’t get through customs any quicker than I do.

I don’t want a system where you have to know someone or be a big shot to receive decent treatment. If everyone — big, powerful people — has to experience the misery involved with getting on an airplane, inflicted on us by our own government, then maybe something will be done about it.

We’re already behind the eight ball by not screaming out heads off that congressmen, senators and their staffers quietly enacted “special” security lines for themselves and their hangers-on.

Only members of the military should not have to deal with this nonsense.

Yes, I was already born then.

I made several returns from Vietnam between 1965-1972 and twice I brought back souvenir weapons. These weapons had to be inspected by Military Intelligence to insure they had no intelligence value. Then they were registered as a War Trophy and an export license was granted.

As an AK-47 is a fully automatic weapon, they were never allowed to be brought home as a War Trophy. If you saw soldiers carrying souvenir weapons through San Francisco Airport, they were probably SKS carbines, or Type 53 carbines, but I can guarantee you that you didn’t see a soldier leaving Travis AFB with a fully automatic AK-47 in 1965-1968.

I don’t think you need a passport for egress. For ingress, it seems a passport is sometimes not enough.

nope; this was SFO disembark with request east coast ferry to Travis embarkation;

They even had grenades with them plus a army nurse on each lap with a bottle of booze. These GI`s always had AK47s back with ` them because some were N.A,s, my cousins, and they stil got`em on the reservation to this day. It appears you were not in SFO to see what was really happening since these local SF area GI`s got out of the SFO airport into taxis with their weapons and nurses, n took the taxis HOME.
SFO is not a military airport and there were no MP`s nor AIP`s there then. There was ZERO security at SFO. Only uniformed people there besides GI`s were the hari krishnas.
There were anti-war demonstrators there in SFO but when they saw the GI`s carrying weapons they shut up real fast n didn`t bother them at all.
