These GI`s always had AK47s back with ` them because some were N.A,s, my cousins, and they stil got`em on the reservation to this day. It appears you were not in SFO to see what was really happening since these local SF area GI`s got out of the SFO airport into taxis with their weapons and nurses, n took the taxis HOME.
SFO is not a military airport and there were no MP`s nor AIP`s there then. There was ZERO security at SFO. Only uniformed people there besides GI`s were the hari krishnas.
There were anti-war demonstrators there in SFO but when they saw the GI`s carrying weapons they shut up real fast n didn`t bother them at all.

I had to laugh at that. Oh how I hated the Hari Krishna’s at the airport.
The best time I had though was at Sea-Tac and the Scientologists and the Hari’s started in on each other. It was a real hoot... almost better than some of the free entertainment on the 8:20PM subway to the Staten Island Ferry docks.
