MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Wisconsin legislative committee is set to vote on a resolution calling for a state convention to propose a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It takes a two-thirds vote in Congress to propose an amendment for states' ratification. Congress also must grant a request from two-thirds of the states to convene a state convention to propose an amendment. Ratification requires approval from three-quarters of state legislatures.
The tea party has been making a national push to convene a convention to propose an amendment requiring the federal government to balance its budget. Wisconsin Republicans have drafted a resolution asking Congress for such a convention.
The Assembly election committee is set to vote on the resolution Tuesday. Approval would clear the way for a full Assembly vote.
NO US Constitutional Convention....
NO! NO! NO! NO!
the Obama people will win the day if it happens...they cheat. and the Republicans are pussies....
Consider adding “Term Limit” to all those in Congress.
12 years Max in Senate
12 years Max in House
No conflit of interest in Congress.
What say you?

One of the many reasons why a ConCon would end up gutting the Bill of Rights in the interest of "fairness," "equality," "security," and "for the children."
Nothing wrong with the constitution except the govt does not follow it. Let’s work on fixing THAT.
LEAVE IT BE!!!

If term limits are good enough for the President, then they’re good enough for all politicians.
What’s awful about our sacred document (beside some ill thought out amendments after the Bill of Rights)???

LEAVE IT BE!!!”
I have to agree. Besides, a balanced budget amendment would never be used to cut wasteful spending. It WILL be used to raise the tax burden to the sky.
My God! What on Earth does it take to get the notion through to folks that NOBODY who matters is proposing a Constitutional Convention!
People keep repeating this lie and there’s no excuse for it.
Nobody says it “awful”. If you want to go after an issue, OK, but don’t create a “straw man”.
NO! NO! NO! NO!
Agreed. It would become a free-for-all circus.
Why do we need a convention to propose even MORE rules that Democrats will just ignore as usual?
Wisconsin legislative committee will vote on Constitutional Convention proposal TODAY
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Every Demonrat state would. That's half right there.
The rest would be done unconstitutionally with the media providing cover on how the amendments needed to be ratified "for the greater good," "fairness," etc.
For example, the race card is a good way for a judge to circumvent states' rights on any matter, particularly southern states. Done all the time, and there are Republican idiots in Congress (Yankees) who support it under the false banner of "civil rights."
Article V ping.
It's actually supported by plenty of FReepers.
I'm not a fan of the idea but don't they matter?
This is particularly true when you consider how many conservative "leaders" lurk or post here without revealing their identities.
Regardless, the idea itself is being debated among conservatives as a solution. Dismissing it by claiming the proponents are irrelevant doesn't make the idea go away.
