The impacts of EPA’s ruling will affect many families. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 survey statistics, 2.4 million American housing units (12 percent of all homes) burned wood as their primary heating fuel, compared with 7 percent that depended upon fuel oil.
Local governments in some states have gone even further than EPA, not only banning the sale of noncompliant stoves, but even their use as fireplaces. As a result, owners face fines for infractions. Puget Sound, Washington is one such location. Montréal, Canada proposes to eliminate all fireplaces within its city limits.
Only weeks after EPA enacted its new stove rules, attorneys general of seven states sued the agency to crack down on wood-burning water heaters as well. The lawsuit was filed by Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont, all predominately Democrat states. Claiming that EPA’s new regulations didn’t go far enough to decrease particle pollution levels, the plaintiffs cited agency estimates that outdoor wood boilers will produce more than 20 percent of wood-burning emissions by 2017. A related suit was filed by the environmental group Earth Justice.

They won’t confiscate it. They will fine you if you are caught burning on ‘no burn days’ and will make it illegal to sell the home with the non-compliant stove in it. That is the way they have done it in California.

I really wish I could say that I have ever been to such a meeting where it served any purpose other than to permit the Government to say they took comments from X number of people at the meeting before they do whatever it was the people who showed up were overwhelmingly against, but I can't.
It only legitimizes their crap.
That isn't saying don't show up, by all means, do, and take the kids and grandchildren. Let them see and understand and get riled. One kid saying "That's not fair!" or "Grandpa, that's wrong!" can make them squirm, and perhaps will someday have some effect.
And teach your kids to shoot, too. They will likely need to know how someday.

This goes back a ways, but back when they were considering lead regulations, this group consistently had people at the meetings making comments about lead paint on bridges. At one meeting, someone stood up and claimed that lead paint on the backs of mirrors was OK because babies were unlikely to chew on mirrors.
And when the final rule came out, it was OK to paint bridges with lead paint and the backs of mirrors were exempt.

Yes, which is why they aren't regulating those. Fireplaces can't be used to keep warm (realistically) so the EPA doesn't care about them.

as a resident of the state of maryland, whose AG is suing the EPA because it doesn’t go far enough, I recognize this threat for what it is

Then the 'brain' went, first in the washer, then in the dryer. The repairman couldn't repair it. Just expensive junk, imho.
We found a set with a top loader, no computer, all knobs and dials and electrical timers. The clothes get cleaner and the washer doesn't pack off with small socks.

To those that say the EPA is only doing blah blah blah, sure. They would never encroach any further. How much evil does the Federal Govt have to do before someone realizes that EVERYTHING coming out of Washington DC today is cancer.
