Heroin overdose deaths across the country are spiking as a deadly new variant of the drug mixed with a powerful painkiller is spreading from New Hampshire to Washington State.
The lethal combination of heroin and fentanyl, an opiate used to soothe the pain of cancer patients, is blamed for about 100 deaths from coast to coast. It is variously labelled as ‘bud ice,’ ‘income tax’ and ‘theraflu,’ authorities say.
The hardest hit states in the epidemic are Maryland, with more than three dozen deaths since September, and Pennsylvania, with almost two dozen this month alone, according to reports.

it can’t mean “Washington State”???...I mean we got the legal pot now so everybody should be happy, happy, happy right?.....afterall, haven’t the libtards told us repeatedly if you legalize pot, every body will be happy and nobody will need to use the harder stuff?......
I just can’t understand why people who have everything going for them do such stupid things. I kind of understand why somebody who has nothing turns to drugs as a way to forget life, but I’m just so tired of these rich people being so self centered. I do not feel sorry for them.

Heroin’s never safe because it might be cut ten times or not at all. An ex-addict explains addicts watch for the unconscious junkie on the corner - not too save him, but to see what brand of smack he just shot up is that gives such a powerful high so they can go buy some for themselves. Self preservation is not a priority; a good high is.

A person near and dear found a better way to get away from street METH. Coupled with a nonjudgmental health care prescriber it is a win win.

Fentanyl is synthetic opiate. Very quick acting with a short half life.
A typical dose of IV morphine is 4 to 10 milligrams.
A dose of Fentanyl might be 25 to 75 MICROGRAMS.
There are 1000 micrograms to a milligram.
There’s another drug out there. Sufentanyl that’s 100 times stronger then Fentanyl.....
I wonder if that’s what killed Philip Seymour Hoffman this weekend?
Therapeutic doses are measured in micrograms. That’s why medical preparations are solutions. You can’t ‘step’ on fentanyl enough in granular (powder) form to be safe.
