Has either political party ever sent the same nominee into the general election twice?

Richard M. Nixon... for some reason, i am thinking that this happened more frequently in the "olden" days...

This is wonderful news! With his rock-solid conservative credentials, Mitt Romney will bring together the various factions of the GOP, as well as some disaffected Democrats, and form un unbeatable, broad-spectrum coalition -- just like he did last time.

Wait, what?

Northeast has long been a Progressive stronghold. With Romney having been governor of Massachusetts and a large number of Massachusetts residents fleeing to New Hampshire for tax reasons, I would expect him to lead the field. After all, Romney was popular in progressive/liberal Massachusetts and they would expect more of the same in his presidency.

The GOP nominated New York governor Thomas Dewey in 1944 and 1948, and he lost both times.

The order of the state voting in the primaries should be directly tied to how Republican they voted in the last election.

The most Republican states should vote FIRST, and the least Republican ones should vote last.

Then make all state primaries closed to only registered Republicans and the problem of liberal democrat states picking our nominee will be solved.

Reagan almost took the nomination from Ford and then the next time around won the nomination.

The order of the state voting in the primaries should be directly tied to how Republican they voted in the last election.

That is a very good idea! Someone should pass that idea along to the RNC, Rush, etc.

I really like that idea of the first primary being the state that was most Republican in the previous election. That would have the added benefit of providing extra motivation for the state party organizations.

Sure - I've got inside info.
Seriously, though - this slowly creeping coup does have an end-game - do you think we can go on indefinetly like this? Do you prefer the Repubs playing the Washington Generals to the Dems Harlem Globetrotters?

".....I have no idea what you are talking about. I am so sorry."

I'm sure that wasn't the first time you've heard that mentioned - not here, anyway.
I wish it wasn't so, and I hope I'm wrong - but do you realize there are forces afoot who see America as only a vehicle to enlarge their power and bank accounts? And they don't all have a "D" after their name.
