The drama surrounding Donald Trump's potential campaign for governor appears headed for an extended runat least until Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino makes a formal announcement about running.
Trump, appearing on an Albany radio station this morning, said he is ready, willing and able to run for governor but will not do so if Astorino or anybody else enters the race. Trump also ruled out taking his potential candidacy to the state GOP convention in the spring.
I really want unity, said Trump, who is scheduled to address a GOP fundraiser in Buffalo Friday. I want to go in there right from the beginning and I want to go in swinging right from the beginning. I dont want to be knocking Rob or knocking anybody else to win a primary.

From one point of view, sounds like a fair deal: He's told us how to keep him out of the race.
But I also wonder: Does he expect to run unopposed by Democrats? What kind of candidate would he be in the general with zero campaign experience? And I guess my third question is rhetorical: Considering he has nothing to lose, and unlike most New Yorkers, he can move if the Democrat wins, is there any limit to his narcissistic ego?
If that's the baseline, we can just nominate the soon-to-be-out-of-work rearend of a Central Park carriage puller.
The thing is he is demanding to be unopposed. I hope a half dozen people run.
If it keeps him from running for President, I’m for it.
People in Hell want ice water, big guy.
People commit all the time prior to an election.
Trump demands a free ride to the nomination. He isn't will to run if opposed. That is entirely different from the example you gave.
Season 14 of “Celebrity Apprentice” starts filming in a couple months. This fits the standard timing for when Trump always starts making controversial political noises that up his public visibility and TV ratings. Same as it ever was.
So the Republicans hand Trump the nomination. All the Democrats have to do is pull some strings with their media buddies, haves one of the networks tell Trump that they're picking up "Celebrity Apprentice" for the season, Trump immediately drops out of the race, and Cuomo breezes into another term unopposed.
That struck me too.
If Donald wants to run, he can do so. But he needs to compete in a primary or the convention with other candidates.
If the power of his personality/convictions/ideals are compelling, he will win the primary, right?
And the same is true of the general election, if he can convince the people including Democrats, in Democrat leaning New York, to vote for him.
I think it’s great if he wants to run, but, he’s got to get out there and deal with the whole process, as any other politician does.
He has more of a chance of being a president than a governor of New Yuk.
Ha!
Haha! The Trumpster is back...
He makes libs’ heads explode. A lot of people think he’s a pompous ass... I think he’s excellent at what he does.
“I think hes excellent at what he does.”
I concur.
Cousin Ruben...from Skokie...
We have a saying here, if she’s from Skokie she has pokies. Ruben would be well aware of this.
