Gabby Giffords: ‘It’s Too Dangerous To Wait’ For Gun Control

On the eve of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords is challenging Washington leaders not to ignore gun violence.

The former Democratic congresswoman is featured in a new television ad set to air immediately before and after the president’s speech. In the ad, Giffords faces the camera and says, “Congress is afraid of the gun lobby.”.....

....Kelly called the inaction on Capitol Hill “remarkable.”

“Congress has done nothing because many politicians are listening to the gun lobby when they should be listening to their constituents,” he said.

Alarm bells go off in my head whenever a political activist of any stripe says that their pet cause is too urgent to wait for Congressional action. It means they want the issue addressed by diktat.

Giffords clings desperately to the same old lie that it's the "gun lobby" driving the situation and not the wishes of the constituents. Colorado state politicians just found out different. Every time it hits the ballot, gun control loses. And that's the real reason Giffords thinks this is "too dangerous to wait" for Congress: it doesn't matter what the voters think either.

More gun laws will not stop these.

Focus on changing how we treat the mentally ill.

1. Educate the public to get strange or troubled family members diagnosed.

2. Fight in your state for the ability to commit diagnosed family members who refuse or do not tolerate medication for their mental illness.

3. Spend for PSAs for gun safety information. Bore people to death with safe fun handling and storing commercials on TV so everyone just KNOWS what is decent gun ownership and mock and punish idiot gun ownership.

My three will actually work stop these crazies shooting up schools etc.

Unfortunately for Ms Giffords there is no such thing as gun violence. No one can provide any evidence or proof that any gun ever committed any violence or crime or any physical action at all. It is PEOPLE, human beings that are violent. They use many and varied tools, including guns to be violent with.

In the new ad, Giffords says that 9 out 10 Americans support background checks. “They make it harder for criminals and the mentally ill to get guns,” she says.

Let's hypothesize for a moment. Let's pretend I'm either a criminal or somebody who has been in and out of mental hospitals with a history of serious mental illness. I know either of these will show up on a background check, and I know individuals meeting these conditions aren't supposed to own guns. So, I willingly go to a legal gun dealer, hand over all my personal information, and subject myself to a background check, knowing it will disqualify me from getting the gun I want to purchase???? Does that make ANY sense? Of course not. If I meet either of these conditions, I stay far away from legal gun sales and buy my gun off the streets. And if I'm mentally ill, but haven't been flagged by the system yet, a background check won't stop me from purchasing, so I fall through that crack. Do these idiots even listen to the words that are coming out of their mouths, or are they just on auto-pilot?
