The most intriguing question about the latest GOP push on immigration is one that no one seems to be asking: Why does the Republican Party seem so determined to push immigration reform this year?
At first glance, it makes no sense whatsoever.
After all, because of Obamacare the electoral landscape is so tilted towards the GOP that it looks likely we'll add seats in the House and take the Senate back. With the filibuster as good as dead, why wouldn't Republicans want to write a tough immigration bill on their terms in 2015 and force Obama to either sign on to it or veto a bill that the public supports?
Furthermore, Obama is illegally giving out work permits, refusing to deport most captured illegals and he has illegitimately created a DREAM ACT by fiat. This is a man who has made absolutely clear that he has no intention of enforcing immigration law; so how do you make any kind of deal that relies on his implementing even tougher rules?

I could write a tough bill that would make it hurt Dems to support it.
This writer is on the amnesty side.
My theory is that the GOP wants this over by the 2016 primary and they figure they will pick up seats this year no matter what, but it will never be over. No matter what GOP passes Dems will demand more the next election.
Cokie Roberts on ABC Sunday claims the bill will be put up for a vote after its too late to file for primary challenges.
I guess that’s the reason. I sure can’t think of anything else except some of those idiots actually think they than get the Hispanic vote.

So, I read JHs article all the way through. AND?
It implies GOP RINOs want amnesty so they can get that mythical Hispanic vote. But it also indicates the very, very real counter to that Democrats stand to gain the great bounty - 20-50 million new ‘Hispanic’ formerly-illegal voters.
The truth is entrenched RINOs are hostage to their comfort with second-rate power, their money grubbing-totally-self-interested-consultants, business that values profit above sovereignty, and a general cowardice that keeps them from ‘being liked’ by the media and all the other attendees at their DC country club soirees.
JH rightly recounts all the things Obama has illegally done to flout immigration laws and policy meant to maintain our sovereignty. Yet, he fails to stress that RINO implementation of a capitulation amnesty plan serves only to legitimize what Obama has done and is doing.
Who said madness doesn’t exist on a wide scale. I say it exists with every RINO and GOPe nutball who has somehow convinced honest sovereign Americans to vote for them. This is true madness.
All it takes is for our leadership to eschew corruption. But, not likely.
The current GOPe Leadership are Globlalist meatpuppets and under great pressure to do this NOW before the jig is up.
Because they are going to get flushed down the crapper, and they know it.
No, it won't. Most blacks and Hispanics favor Big Government. They have a vested interest in maintaining Dem control because they depend on government benefits.
ANSWER: They want to realize their long-held death wish.
IDIOTS. Maybe they should try deporting illegals and having a moratorium on all immigration, and then there won't be so many Hispanics here to pander to, and maybe some of the disgusted patriots who have been staying home from the polls will vote for the GOP.
Those demographics have the GOP freaked out. I believe over 50% of elementary school kids in CA are Hispanic. Just wait till that Dem wave hits TX and FL. Third world here we come. The historic GOP is done.
They some of the ‘hispanic’ vote, they got the ‘independent’ and ‘moderate’ vote in 2012.
What they did not get, and will not get is the ‘conservative’ vote. Their pundits, lazy entrenched RINOs and their money-grubbing consultants don’t realize, there are more, millions and millions more out there that are close to doing the same darn thing come 2016 if they persist with their insanity and nominate somebody like Jeb Bush, Christie or other false-flag politician.
The GOP thinks with the kenyan in the WH and obamacare on the table that the base will vote for them anyway. Sorry, no deal. Romney was my last hold your nose vote.
There is simply no longer any reason for a conservative to vote for a Republican party that does nothing but enable the progressive agenda.
Because they make more personal fortune being on the minority side and making side deals. Being in the majority is too much work, not enough pay.
It is tragic there is no intelligent discussion of such an important issue.
It can’t be immigration “reform” without strict numerical limits. An entitlement for anyone here is a disaster. Could add 50 million.
And it can’t be “reform” unless a considerable percentage of illegals are sent back to their own countries.
Ever hear anyone discussing this? If the middle class doesn’t stand up America is finished.
In other words, passing the bill could hurt the GOP in the short term with Hispanic voters and demographically flood conservatism out of existence over the long term if the Republicans cave yet again and give those illegals citizenship.
Further proof we live in a majoritarian, democratic republic, where the pols who can garner the most votes rule, and enumerated powers mean nothing.

We encourage and incentivize group identity thru affirmative action, minority business set asides, etc. An immigrant from Mexico or Nigeria can take advantage of such benefits as soon as they get here. Why should they get any advantage over non-Hispanic whites? What past injustices or grievances do they have that need to be addressed? 87% of the 1.2 million legal immigrants that enter annually are minorities as classified by the USG.
Since the 1965 Immigration Act, our pro-population growth immigration policies have fueled major demographic changes in a very short period of time. In 1970, non-Hispanic whites comprised 89 percent of the population; today they are 63 percent; and by 2043, they will be 50 percent.
