Why now? The TEA Party is on the ascendancy. The Democrats already passed Amnesty in the Senate. If the GOPe can't get an immigration bill, ANY immigration bill, into conference this year then the whole process will have to start again after the next election. It will be much much harder then. With more TEA Party types in the House and Senate the current GOP Leadership is toast. How would Amnesty get through with Ted Cruz as the Senate Majority leader?

The current GOPe Leadership are Globlalist meatpuppets and under great pressure to do this NOW before the jig is up.

The Senate has still not submitted the Gang of 8 bill to the House. Reid knows it will be sent back blue-slipped for revision because it violates the origination clause. No immigration bill should come out of the House because it will be paired with the Gang of 8 bill in conference.
