LOWER MORELAND, Pa. - January 24, 2014 (WPVI) -- A high school teacher in Montgomery County has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Erica Ann Ginnetti, 33, an advanced math teacher at Lower Moreland High School, is charged with 13 counts including Institutional Sexual Assault, Corruption of Minors, and Disseminating Obscene Materials to a Minor.
Students say the rumors have been circulating for a while that Ginnetti, a married mother, had an intimate relationship with a 17-year-old male student. "The fact that she had kids and she was a teacher and he was student, that's what's shocking," said Patrick Giordano, student.
Police began their investigation ten days ago, after receiving a tip about other students seeing incriminating evidence on the victim's cell phone. Police say the evidence, including photos, video and text messages, led them to Ginnetti, who admitted to having a relationship with the student starting last Spring.
Investigators say Ginnetti first approached the male student at the school's senior prom last May, asking him if he would come work out at her gym. They say the student responded with a text message a few days later and the two began communicating on a daily basis.
Prosecutors say over the next several months, Ginnetti sent the student sexual text messages and sexually explicit photos and videos of herself, and on one occasion had sex with him. Investigators said in July 2013 the pair met at coffee shop in Northeast Philadelphia, Ginnetti drove the student to an industrial park near the Lower Moreland-Philadelphia border, had sex with him, then drove him back to the coffee shop and asked him not to tell anyone.

“Teachers should not be allowed to be alone with a student, unless in plain view.”
They saw each other off campus apparently.
FWIW, back in my teaching days, there was a case where someone was accused of bad behavior, probably unfairly. After that, that rule was put in place....no contact with students alone, no meetings outside of school alone. It stopped all of the allegations, as just being alone broke that rule.
I do think that a big part of the problem is that teachers have become mentors who are supposed to become aware of students' personal lives. It doesn't help students or teachers focus on learning. I'm a dinosaur with this view, I know, but as a teacher I wanted to teach. If I wanted to solve their problems, I would've been a guidance counselor.
She had sex with a 17 year old. Big deal. Meanwhile mothers kill their unborn children, and it’s sanctioned by the state....
Hmm, might be not guilty. Any of her in a bikini ?
That is one manly looking woman.
She probably is hoping for a hung jury.
