Michelle Obama is getting a new ally in her campaign to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.
The first lady was expected to announce Thursday that the Subway sandwich chain will spend $41 million over three years to encourage finicky young eaters to eat more food that comes out of the ground or grows on trees. The announcement was being made at a Subway shop near the White House.
Subway will only offer a kids' menu that mirrors federal standards for school lunches. That includes offering apples on the side and low-fat or nonfat plain milk or water as a default beverage....

I have never figured out why the press thinks we want to see so many photos of this or any President eating? We know they eat, and, so what? I don’t need to see food entering their mouths. I’ve seen this with the Bushes and the Clintons. No, I’m not shocked that The President of First Lady eat food. No, I’m not planning to purchase a calendar showing eat of the month photos. Unless you really do catch Bronco eating Dog, I don’t want to see it.

I don’t think Michele will make it through the next couple years without a host of “escapes”..”vacations” etc. ....she’s still not handling being First LAdy well...why all the secrecy about her birthday bash...and sleepover with Oprah?
I just think she wants out of the whole deal..Obama included...so when it looks like she’ll break..they send her somewhere.

Reminds me of the required "social" demands on businesses in Ayn Rand's We the Living, the closest Rand would come to an autobiography and much more concise than Atlas Schrugged.
Maybe Subway's doing this out of a sense of *cough* social responsibility, or perhaps they've been offered - er - opportunities or flatout strongarmed into countermanding business sense.
Whatever it is, the more businesses comply with Administrative ... invitations... the more "social" pressure for others to fall in line without a whimper.

Yep....that healthy diet will really go over well with the teenagers in D. C. Wonder if the taxpayers will be bailing out Subway now.

Agreed. Unfortunately, Subway is my favorite “fast food.”

Stopped eating their sandwiches a long time ago. Their dried out, tasteless bread that smashes down to a half inch was horrible to base a sanwich shop on. Quiznos or better yet Jimmy Johns sandwiches run circles around subway. But, it makes sense for the inferior gubbmint to put their clout behind an inferior product.

Indeed they are. Have never seen such an overwhelmingly negative response on Facebook.
And I have just finished adding my displeasure to the thousands of similar comments.
