PARIS Nicole Kidman-starrer Grace of Monaco will open the 67th Cannes Festival on May 14, it was announced today.
The film portrays a period in the life of American actress who became Princess Grace of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier III in 1956, in what was dubbed the marriage of the century. An Oscar winner, she was already a huge film star, having worked with the very greatest (John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Fred Zinnemann) Hollywood-based filmmakers, she was suddenly confronted with an offer by Hitchcock to take the lead in his new film Marnie and French government ambitions to tax or even annex Monaco.

One of the most radiantly beautiful women in history ... Her daughter Stephanie is almost as beautiful as her mother.
It’s too bad Nicole got a facelift. She was pretty hot looking before, now she’s not so much...
Nicole Kidman? Charlese Theron would’ve been a much better choice.
Neither is Charlize Theron (surfing the scum-sucking bottom with boyfriend Sean Penn) they have in that commercial trying to compare her garish aggressive model visage with Grace and others like Marilyn Monroe.... No comparison whatsoever.
“With respect to Ms. Kidman, she is no Princess Grace.
That’s what hubby & I said. She could have been great as Elizabeth Montgomery/Samantha Stevens, but that movie was dreadful.
Phew! Once she was twenty years younger than me. Now, she looks thirty years older than me.
Her two daughters were not exactly the epitome of “grace.” But Grace was really known to sow her wild oats before she settled down with the Prince.
Yikes! Looks like she’s lived a hard life. How old is she, btw?
48. Too much sun?
I looked at a few recent images of Princess Stephanie too. Let’s just say that she’s not aging well ...
And yes, she did a hell of a job!
That's true. About a year or so ago I read her biography. She was, in fact, pretty promiscuous.
Interestingly---and sadly---she spent her youth trying to earn her father's praise, with little success. She wasn't in love with Rainier, but thought becoming a princess might finally accomplish that goal.
Smoker lips...
She looks more like her father.
I do as well...
It was truly remarkable acting by her...
I used to think of her as a marginal basic hollyweird airhead blonde, which she probably still is, but her acting in that movie was a tour de force...
Must be that ;-)
Yeah, that’s the truth - she slept with everybody. I wish she could have married a prince of a higher station than Monaco but I guess he was the only one around. (Unless you count Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband!)
Still she was a beautiful woman, a good actress, and the epitome of class and style on screen. Pretty good legacy.
I don’t know how well Nicole Kidman will pull this off but I agree that Grace Kelly is almost as close to 10 as is possible and it is more amazing that she looked that way before the era of plastic surgeries and breast enhancements.
Decent actress but I don’t blame her for escaping Hollywood.
