Stryker platoons learning to deal with different enemy, faltering equipment
Stars & Stripes ^ | January 24, 2014 | Adam Ashton

Lt. Tyler Tessman awoke in the desert one day this week with two problems.

He had to rethink a tough training mission that stacked the odds against his Joint Base Lewis-McChord Stryker platoon.

And he had to consider the possibility that his team might be grounded before he could even start on the battle plan.

Three of the four Strykers vehicles in his platoon were immobilized — one from too many busted tires, one from a broken axle and one from an assortment of safety issues that made it undrivable.

The administration is too busy giving military vehicles to local police departments to worry about Soldiers.

The Stryker was never meant to do what the mil has been doing with it. They loaded it down with extra armor and all kinds of extraneous passive defenses, then put it in as a front-line urban combat vehicle rather than the light-infantry open country combat it was intended for. It’s also been in-service for a couple of decades, despite having been originally brought in as a stop-gap while they brought the new generation of tracked combat vehicles into production. Blame that one on Shinseki along with those stupid berets.

The good news is that these tanks will become affordable, due to maintenance costs, for many cities who received them.

Or

They could start demonstrating the good”effectiveness and necessity “ of these unnecessary hulks , with several raids.

They’ll invite the news along so they can act as a proxy PR firm.

Since the “ one “ killed bin laden (with info from bush’s enhanced interrogation). Time to pull out anyway. We really shouldn’t be giving the regime a complete army to play with. He tends to take the wrong side.

Reminds me of the Sergeant York Tank, or the development of the Bradley.

It’s time to pull out troops out of the field - shut down our embassies in these moslem nations and regroup after Obama is impeached and his administration jailed...

Right now - we are doing nothing but wasting our troops and equipment on a lost cause...

Compared to Sgt. York, yes. However, one might go back to see the original requirements put forth by the Army and review how they changed on the Bradley over time.

The Bradley didn’t suffer the same sort of fate as York because they at least didn’t fake tests rampantly.

Flat tires is a fact of life wherever they’re operating.
I’m thinking Patton (isn’t he the guy who established this base for desert training?) would keel over hearing it takes them hours to change a tire.

What are you talking about?

You think he is a female or that he has something to do with my post about females serving in the military?

It appears it ain't just the pudgy teen girls that are unable to git r done.

Patton would probably have slapped this guy silly.

You sure aren’t making sense, and I don’t know what you have against that soldier, Sturzenegger.

I do know that trying to change tires that weigh over 200 pounds and broken axles, all out in the field, is not for the girls.

I have watched the females trying to set up a big tent, it was sad of course, but also hilarious.
