Gun makers objections to a California law that requires firearms to imprint a unique microstamp on bullet casings are baloney and posturing, said Los Angeles City Atty. Mike Feuer, who introduced the legislation while serving in the state Assembly.
Feuers comments come as gun maker Smith & Wesson announced Thursday that it would stop selling newly designed semiautomatic pistols in California because it will not comply with the law, implemented in May 2013.
The law requires some firearms to imprint a unique microstamp to help identify bullet casings. It is intended to help police investigators link shell casings found at crime scenes to a specific gun.
Smith & Wesson joins gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Co. in halting the sales. Both companies criticized the microstamping requirement as costly, unreliable and ineffective, saying that there is no evidence that it will help solve crimes.

Best you sharpen your attack.
There are plenty of “peeps” in CA like me that would never Vote Democrat.
We live among the Vermin because we have obligations rooted in a Lifetime of Residency.
If you want to attack the Idiots that Voted these Ass Clowns in go ahead. I’m sure there are plenty of people in your Home State that Voted for Obama and every other Liberal running for Statewide Office.
You are fortunate that the Majority in your State (I assume)think otherwise, but things change. CO and VA come to mind.
I'm working on moving, after 40 yrs.
Simpler to just by cheap 9 mils and toss them/destroy them.
The law says “two places”, so the firing pin replacement will not help.
The law also says that a firearm with a “failed” microstamping system is illegal.
Steel cased ammo probably won’t take the chamber imprint.
That and a clean firing pin should eliminate both stamps.

One could just carry a HK P7 M8 or M13...

The firing pin & spring assembly
mate with the firing pin bushing
to form a self-contained "striker assemby", which is inserted into the rear of the slide.
When the "squeeze-cocker" in the grip is fully depressed, the firing pin (in the center, above) extends beyond the bushing, the weapon is cocked -- and will fire when the trigger is pulled.
BUT -- if the squeeze-cocker is depressed just until the firing pin is flush with the back of the bushing, a simple 90-degree turn of the assembly (with your thumb) "unlocks" the assembly, and further depressing of the squeeze-cocker makes the whole firing assembly pop right out into your hand.
At that point, the weapon is totally inert and non-fireable. (P7 owners need no stupid gun locks!)
With practice, removing the "striker assembly" (firing mechanism) and dropping it into your shirt pocket takes a whole four seconds.
Replacing the assembly (with the same one -- or another...) [thus returing the P7 to full functionality] takes about the same time and effort.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Of course the HK P7s are no longer in production -- so the laws as written don't apply. (And the surviving firearms [and parts] are now hellaciously expensive!)
OTOH, I understand that Glocks use a similar "striker assembly"...
...but, I've ever tried to remove and replace one...
Those who wrote the laws were aware of the ease of firing pin replacement, that’s why all of these laws and bills require the stamp appear in 2 places. Typically the primer and breech face. Occasionally the primer and chamber.
Also keep in mind that for microstamping to work, a firearm registry is pretty much a requirement.
The registry is one of the main goals.
Of course, I would bet that a clever and patient experimenter could come up with a cartridge coating that would seriously compromise microstamping — without hindering functionality of the firearm...
Great minds think alike. :-)
The stupid politicians and movie actors talk about microstamping the "shell casings," which do not exist in ammunition parlance. If you asked them what a primer is, they'd scream: "racist"!
As far as I'm concerned, anyone who has never reloaded ammunition should refrain from making public comments on the topic of ammunition.
As an aside, I put this graphic together for educational purposes for those who think they're firearms experts.
I always wondered how the press decided to give the Communist states a blue color which is usually interpreted as representing honor or fidelity.
We all know what is the hue of a dead body, and it is blue.
So I think that in the long run , it is appropriate the dead states like ours in California, and Illinois and New York, are considered ‘blue’.
Red states are full of life and freedom and prosperity.
By that logic, you deserve Obama.
Brass casings make for very tough sausages.
You got it!
“Democrat legislators couldnt pass a stupid test”
My Senator Chucky Schumer could pass that test with flying colors and give 99 cents change for every dollar.
Microstamping is what should be called baloney. A few strokes with a file and it’s gone. Now what kind of a criminal is going to use a gun in a crime with a signature on it when it can be erased that easily? The only people who would have the microstamping intact are the law-abiding. Those are the people the law is intended to hurt. What they have actually done is to create a black market for stolen guns and straw purchases from other states. The end result of this law will be bad for California.
Yep - they have a long record of giving up Constitutional privileges - unless they get sick of it and change the rulers they elect, they can wear their chains in silence.
Their next holy grail is the so-called assault rifles. Look for CA to require microstamping for all semi-auto rifles next. Other blue states will follow suit.
You nailed it in one.
I think you don’t get it........ changing the firing pin would be illegal. You would be breaking the law
ANY lawyer could use this EVERY time. The first comment in this thread nails it. End of discussion.
“CA Libturds are malarkey.”......
It may only be California today but I assure you this will soon extend well beyond their borders and be implemented nation wide.
Remember where the cry for non-lead bullets started? Well that too will very soon be implemented across our entire nation as well. Ammunition may not contain lead and yes there are alternate materials as replacement. The gubmint may not be able to take all our guns but without ammunition, what good is the gun.
