Looks like a scene from a medieval siege.

Ukrainians can deal with the Eu far better than if Russia gains the ground here. Even if the EU is embracing Muslims, doesn’t mean Ukrainians would do so.....but they stand a far better chance of freedom with the EU than with Russia.
yes, as you can see from the maps below the division of the country is essentially along ethnic lines. Russia took parts of Georgia by force a few years back. They are trying to take Georgia by other means. I think an apt comparison is to the different ways that Hitler took the Sudetenland and Austria.

Exactly. Ukraine has excellent reasons to join the EU that we don’t have to approve of, and most, as I see, don’t try to understand. How about infrastructure investments? D’uh! Germans and French and the Swedes don’t like anything better than open up supermarkets, sell their products and build roads to deliver them. Winners all around. There are other benefits for the citizens of an underdeveloped EU member. And lots of pain for the small producers who will now have to obey EU regulations.
Pickle sandwiches?
A little short Ukrainians whether from the east or the west of the country self identify as Ukrainians. This protest has moved from a trade agreement issue to a protest about the corruption of the Yanukovich government and personal freedom generally
Yanukovich may wind up being “Ceaucescued”
True...but Putin covets the Ukraine for his pipeline into Europe. The Russian Ukrainians mistakenly believe they will benefit from this not to mention being a part of their homeland Russia. The pipeline will likely happen anyway.....the EU will work with Putin and or any other Leader of the Ukraine to make that happen.
The trade agreement was Putins and Yanukovich’s , who is Putins man. The election was felt to be stolen in the first place. The “self_Identified” Ukrainians were opposed to Yanchovich right from the start.....
I doubt Yanchovich will last long at the rate this is playing out...but the threat is if the Gov. doesn’t get control of these demonstrations Ukraine will split.
Thank you for your well informed posts, it’s been rather frustrating...
On FR the truth generally comes out RC.....
There are many Ukranians who do not themselves understand the political dynamics for what is happening either...all they need to know is they are loosing their freedom .
Although to be fair to Putin...politically he’s doing far better Internationally than Obama is. He’s playing chess..Obama thinks it’s a checkers game!
Who told you Russians are Christians? quickly looking at Wiki - less than half identify themselves as Christians. I suspect (forgive me, my statistic) two thirds of that number are Christians on paper only and haven’t been to a church in years.
Second point relates to the Christian values, I guarantee that they are not compatible with yours. The head of the official church and the priests are unchanged from the USSR days. You remember those days when a “priest” had a KGB call sign and made regular reports? This current patriarch was known as “Mikhailov”. The church is nothing but a tool to implement Kremlin propaganda. They are hateful towards other nationalities and other Christian denominations. Protestants, Catholics etc. - they don’t differentiate - they’re all labelled as “schismatics” and are a competitive threat on what they see as their rightful flock.
Back to the civilization values, would you at least agree that Europe and US are part of the Western civilization, civilization which Russia has never really been a part of?
I think Turkey is next.
Looks like “Russia is at the gates of Europe again”....Putin has shown up...of course Obama hasn’t.
Thank-you for the outstanding photo contributions to the thread.
Well Putin’s been on the move rapidly in the years since Obama came into office. He knows there will be no opposition to anything he does ....certainly the stand off in Syria proved without a doubt who has the upper hand in “The Cold War” which has raised it’s head yet again...trouble is Obama hasn’t a clue and if does... has no concern.
Both China and Russia are on a rapid move since Obama came in to office....I remember years ago ..on THE MATRIX.....Mesta, and the rest of us there were sounding the alarm that this was going to happen, and Russia and China had to be watched regardless of what was happening in the Middle East...and here we are now with both those nations on the move bigtime!
Turkey will play into this but will favor Russia and the ME nations over the EU.
My pleasure entirely...and thank you for posting the thread!
Much of the world seems to be resetting. Obama has been worthless. It sure makes me re-think that reset button Hillary gave to Russia.
Maybe not rethink but think more deeply about.
Cream cheese, pickles and bread? Seems entirely with the realm of eastern European food.
