De Blasio Backs Cuomo: Wants Conservatives to Get Out
breitbart ^ | 1/23/14 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 01/23/2014 2:10:16 PM PST by Nachum

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio emphatically backed New Governor Andrew Cuomo’s controversial remarks that “extreme” conservatives – which he defined as being pro-life, second amendment advocates, or supporters of traditional marriage – “have no place in the state of New York.”

“I stand by that 100 percent,” de Blasio told reporters at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s remarks. I interpret his remarks to say that an extremist attitude that continues the reality of violence in our communities or an extremist attitude that denies the rights of women does not represent the views of New York State,” he added.

Governor Cuomo riled up conservatives in New York state as well as all over the country when he told a local New York State radio program last Friday “extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay....have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

The remarks have snowballed into a major controversy, with Fox News host Sean Hannity vowing to leave New York City, prompting a bidding war between Republican governors to persuade him to move to their states. Hannity is reportedly eyeing a political bid in Texas. At the March for Life yesterday, one participant pushed back at Cuomo, telling Breitbart News, "We're here, we're pro-life, get used to it."

That’s a good idea. Post a thread when you get a response, I’d love to read it.

I’ve been noticiing ads trying to get businesses to relocate to NY (state, I think) recently, with some tax incentives or along that line.

I expect the remarks by these two fools have caused the advertising money to be a complete waste. (And it was probably taxpayer money, to boot!).

Rather, they will put their so-called “ideas” to the front curve before they move. Ever heard of the saying, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”.

There are and there always have been red areas on the map! De Blasio must have looked at them before deciding where to plow.

I grew up on the UWS, which was certainly not conservative by any measure, and then I came back from elsewhere and lived there for many years, a block away from where I grew up. But the strange thing is that everybody there hated Dem policies and complained incessantly...but when election day rolled around, they would either vote for the Dem or not vote at all.

Part of it was probably deficient GOP candidates, which is to be expected in a city that has virtually no GOP representation in its chambers or offices. There’s no development going on, so whoever has the money to file and run gets the nod. That’s how Bloomberg ran initially as a Republican. He did this because he thought no Dem could win, although he later changed to “Independent” because his policies were clearly at odds with GOP principles.

Still, he was at least competent in running the city. But if the entire country voted for an unproved incompetent, and then, 4 years later, voted for the same but now proved incompetent, who can criticize NYC?

That was the old WASP "Silk Stocking District." Theodore White called it the "Perfumed Stockade," the national capital of the Republican Establishmen. Nowadays it's not so WASPy and they vote Democrat like the rest of the city. Obama carried the Upper East Side handily, but DiBlasio probably trod on more than a few toes there. Bloomberg is much more their kind of person. DeBlasio seems like somebody who likes making enemies among those he thinks have too much money.

The Wikipedia page is interesting. The UES is the only part of Manhattan where registered Republicans make up more than 20% of the voters, and in one small part of the neighborhood there are actually as many registered Republicans as Democrats (the only part of Manhattan where that is true). It's no longer WASP Central. By one estimate, a third of residents are Jewish. But the district looks a lot like America used to. Wikipedia says the neighborhood is 88% White. That can't actually be true, can it?

There's a lot of political theater going on between these two. They'll be fighting a lot and Cuomo will try to make himself look like a centrist in comparison to DiBlasio.

Every once in a while they'll agree about something like this to defuse the tension (unless you think the fighting is fake and they really are working together hand in glove behind the scenes).

Cuomo—the elder—never ran for President because of perceived ties to the Mafia. Hey, those ties may have been real!

It has to be very difficult for a conservatives living in this third world country, known as New York. One thing for sure......I will NEVER knowingly spend a penny in that state, including any online purchases. Businesses that want to pay their outrageous taxes won’t be doing it with my dime.
