The decision by Virginia's attorney general to join challenges of the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage is drawing sharply divided responses.

Attorneys representing couples challenging the ban are celebrating the decision by Attorney General Mark Herring, calling it an historic day for Virginia.

One attorney said "it's a nice day to be an American."

It doesn't matter what the voters or citizens say, our "masters" will tell us what's right.

There were a lot of people here saying that despite electing scumbag Terry McAuliffe to the governorship, Virginia's legislature was solid and would keep him in check. I doubted that at the time and more so now with this clymer of an AG.

We have very little hope here in the People's Republic of New York, but Virginia can still save itself if people wake up and realize the barbarians are already past the gate and it will only take a few RINOs to agree to those "sensible" compromises that enhance the statists and hammer us. It's the way they always sell us out and don't bet for a second they won't do it in Virginia.

This leftist crew in Richmond is going to pull the same stunt their fellow travelers in California did... declare an existing law to be “unconstitutional,” refuse to defend it, then side with the plaintiff to get it overturned.

Sorry, USA... Virginia, once a cradle of American liberty and dynamism, has caught the brain-eating virus of liberalism and is rather unwell now...

Will McAuliffe be the next governor to proclaim that pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-traditional marriage residents are not welcome in his state?

His AG seems to be paving the way for that pronouncement.

The AG just ended the ban on polygamy with his argument.

Yup. Based on a 1958 case on interracial marriage. Homosexual behavior has nothing to do with race but they’ll pretend that it does.

One attorney said “it’s a nice day to be an American.”

No, its a sad day. But elections have consequences and since the GOP establishment traitors FAILED to support the Republican for Governor, we can expect more of this garbage from the moron sitting in the Virginia Governor’s mansion.

The GOP does seem intent on handing the country over to socialists and communists.

Va’s amendment is pretty much the toughest in the nation, that’s why it only passed by 57% back in 2006 when every other states in the same southern region were passing them in the mid 70% ranges, in my opinion. The AG at the time actually had to make a clarifying ruling that it didn’t prohibit all types of contracts between citizens.

So another AG eight years later decided it actually violates the US constitution so he won’t defend it. To the state marriage is simply whatever judges, pols or the voting majority thinks it is at any one time, and to the state that’s all it ever will be or can be, at least in the modern era.

Marriage between a man and a woman is a cornerstone for an orderly society. It creates stable family units and cannot be redefined at the whim of leftists. It is what it is and saying it is now something different doesn't make it right or true. "Let's pretend" does not stabilize society.

Constitution of Virginia, Article I, Section 15-A. Marriage.

That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions. This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage.

The amendment ratified November 7, 2006, and effective January 1, 2007—Added a new section (15-A).

The state isn’t interested in stabilizing society, and deciding how to stabilize society isn’t how the state determines its definition of marriage. You can tell by the acceptance of no fault divorce and the growing state acceptance of ‘gay marriage.’

When an Attorney General takes a stance such as this, the people should move to impeach him. He is suddenly not a representative of rhe people and as such should be removed to make room for womeone who will represent the people.

The state is only interested in power and redefining marriage is not one of their powers. The people need to reign in government. I believe they are too apathetic to do so.
