More than 100 patients who had colonoscopies between 2011 and 2013 at Seattle Childrens have been advised to be tested for hepatitis B and C and HIV after the hospital discovered special equipment used in the procedures had not been properly cleaned. ... The hospital found that technicians werent sufficiently trained on the proper procedures, which led to the scopes being used again before they were ready, DiNuzzo said.
The hospital did not inform patients earlier because officials wanted to do a thorough investigation and not unnecessarily alarm patients, Zerr said.
From July 2011 to 2013, the hospital can't be sure that the technicians were cleaning the colonoscopes in the manner they were supposed to, Zerr said. These lapses on their own create a small increased risk.

Pre-Obamacare but this kind of stuff will only get more common as we all know.
I've been refusing these for years. When God sends me cancer I'm outta here.
I am in complete agreement. As a retired nurse I did medical malpractice consultations for several years. The colonoscopy cases were terrifying!

Affirmative action hires?
Henry Blake: “Here’s looking up your address”
things not to trust being cleaned properly:
- dentist office equipment
- doctor’s office equipment
- speculums
- colonoscopy endoscopes
- anything in your hotel room
- cutlery at your favorite restaurant
- anything at daycare
For what reason would a child need a colonoscopy??
Not just for polyp/cancer detection.
Used for diagnosis of any abnormal condition of the large bowel and part of the small bowel such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
Still, I say no thanks, unless maybe under general. Patients undergoing twilight anesthesia often experience the discomfort of having the colon inflated with air pressure, but don’t remember it due to the short-term memory block.
And right, I’m going to drink 64 ounces of that crap.
That was the first thing I thought of too, so I googled it for the answer. I was just unaware of it, but they to it.
I did it a few months ago. I could not get the stuff down without crystal light mixed in, but I managed to survive.
My mother told her doctor she could not drink down 64 oz so he gave her something else that was a smaller amount.
I am due for one and going to ask for the same. I weigh 100 lbs and no way can I get that huge amount down and KEEP it down!
Thanks so much for posting this. I wanted to but haven’t learned how to post articles on FR. I am like you, at 57(58 next month) they’re hounding me to get routine colonoscopies, and Ive been resisting.
And Ive also been wondering why are kids getting colonoscopies?
Thanks. You must be in the medical profession.
Definitely find out in advance what’s suitable for your weight.
Don't resist. Just do it. The hardest part, is drinking that stuff. They will knock you out, and you won't know a thing. It's easy.
Well, you do have to have somebody escort you home(probably mostly for liability reasons)
Also the fasting and purging preparation sounds pretty bad.
New Mexico drivers may be at risk of colonoscopy after clenching buttocks.
And right, Im going to drink 64 ounces of that crap.
Have to add the bottle of magic dust from the pharmacy to your 64 oz. of Gatorade.
My sister works for a medical malpractice firm that insures doctors. She also would never have a colonoscopy due to the horror stories she’s heard.
Mark, The headline is confusing. “Childrens” is the name of the hospital.
