School children all over the country know that Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There have been essay contests to commemorate the holiday, and classes nationwide will be listening to recordings of the civil rights leader's 1963 "I Had a Dream" speech.
Fulfilling that dream, however, won't be helped by the fact that the unemployment rate for black teenagers is 35.5 percent. The rate for all teenagers is 20.2 percent.

“In response to the article and the numbers, WHO CARES?”
That is the attitude of both the left and right in this country at this point; after investing so much (free rent, food, higher education) for 50 years, most people are realizing the hopelessness of the situation. If the left prevents us from fixing their schools and holding them to a “white” or “adult” standard, they will never become contributors to society. The people in charge have decided that they will be replaced with a Hispanic underclass, which lacks the grievances to hold them back mentally; this process is evident everywhere, as cities increasingly elect Hispanic mayors to represent their increasingly Hispanic constituencies.

And how many black “teens” have already dropped out of school with not even a high school diploma? Might this have something to do with those figures?
It was obvious that the color of Obama’s skin was more important than the content of his character from the moment he stepped onto the national stage — either that or our culture has become so debased that lying (or bullsh*ting if you take Harry G. Frankfurt’s distinction seriously) and repeatedly voting “present” so as not to take a position on contentious issues are now regarded as signs of good character.
“And how many black teens have already dropped out of school with not even a high school diploma? Might this have something to do with those figures?”
Even worse, what can a black teen with a high school diploma do for a living? For that matter, a college degree? In too many cases, they are meaningless pieces of paper awarded by organizations too scared by the “racist” label to be honest. Can people with no real education get a job as a cashier? a telemarketer? They lack the most basic job skills (basic English, math); this allows Hispanics to easily displace them in the job market.
I should add that is ironic that these folks are being judged by the content of their character.
Midnight Basketball - Demand it!
What percentage of the unemployed black youths had the benefit of a caring, mentoring, money-earning father living in the home with them? The illegitimacy rate among blacks is 72% overall, and upwards of 90% in the ghettos. With no male role model, it is difficult (not impossible, but difficult) for black youths to receive the discipline necessary to obtain the educational and emotional skill sets needed to achieve success.
Immigrants who come here from Asian countries are able to overcome a difficult new language and have achieved success similar to that achieved by hardworking Jews and other European immigrants in the past, due to strong family values and an understanding that hard work, particularly in school, is fundamental to success. Fighting the War on Poverty while ignoring the root cause is like fighting liver cancer by amputating an infected toe.
“People who have an angry attitude, people who fight with co-workers or curse at customers, people who steal from you if your back is turned, people who don’t show up because they’re too stoned — THOSE are people which businesses have little interest in.”
“Which is another way of saying they are unemployable. Politicians ignore the root cause of unemployment for this group. They are unemployed because they have nothing to offer an employer.”
The answer in two nutshells. The unspeakable truth.
Its not hopeless, just easier to blame someone and do nothing.
The fact is that we need to see some serious job creation and a lot of people will take them.
Gotta be that legacy of slavery.
“Its not hopeless, just easier to blame someone and do nothing. The fact is that we need to see some serious job creation and a lot of people will take them.”
I admire your optimism, but living between Newark & Jersey City in NJ I see what their prospects are. Unskilled Americans of any color cannot compete with the barely-educated Hispanics that have been imported to replace them; in fact, they are now importing educated Asians to replace the rest of us.
The beaten are worthless.
Perfect storm. Don’t want to work, Can’t get hired. What’s left? You and me pay their way.
“The beaten are worthless.”
Many have been “beaten” for generations, and it is reflected in how they live (and die). They’ve been dangling false hopes in front of too many people, instead of being brutally honest to motivate them.
They’ll all get jobs at Barack’s Pot Stores for $15 an hour.
“Theyll all get jobs at Baracks Pot Stores for $15 an hour.”
That’s right; I had forgotten about that growth sector of our economy...
The only solution is to remove all the government programs which make it viable for a woman to have a kid without being married to a stable, employed husband. But that would be both racist AND sexist, and the feminists would crucify anybody who proposed it.
