School children all over the country know that Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There have been essay contests to commemorate the holiday, and classes nationwide will be listening to recordings of the civil rights leader's 1963 "I Had a Dream" speech.
Fulfilling that dream, however, won't be helped by the fact that the unemployment rate for black teenagers is 35.5 percent. The rate for all teenagers is 20.2 percent.

WHAT A FAILURE.
MLK would be ashamed.
Those are white #’s just ask any black congressperson
1963 “I Had a Dream”
2014 “I HAD a job”!
unstated, education level of the jobless
But I got an EBT card!
Yet black Americans still love Obama. I guess the color of his skin is more important than the content of his character. Imagine the outrage if Obama was all white instead of half white.
Well, at least the black youths do not have to skip work to attend the politicians MLK speeches.
An added benefit since Martin Luther King Jr. Day is another holiday for bankers and government employees and we all know that government employment is the highest ambition of black youth that want a job.
I’m going to write something here that may make me seem like I’m a racist or a bigot... But I’m not...
In response to the article and the numbers, WHO CARES?
I have 3 children who are all looking for jobs or working what they can find. That’s how they were raised. If the blacks can’t “get theres”, then they need to stop electing people who make it impossible...
I don’t give a rats a$$...
That is because studying and education are whitey values.
Cities are a harsh environment for the small businessman and small business is America’s true economic driver.
My great grandfather arrived in Detroit in 1912 and went to work for a neighborhood butcher within his first 24 hours in America.
Good luck finding small businesses like that anymore.
Any young male adult(of any race or creed) that is not working and is not a trust fund baby is either a criminal, homeless, sucking off of parents, sucking of a welfare queen, sucking off of unemployment or in jail/prison. There are no other options.
It’s cultural.
Raise the minimum wage, that’ll help.
So what?
They may not have jobs, but they keeps it real.
Unstated, attitude and drug-use level of the jobless.
You can use people who have low reading level, or who do not know algebra. People who have an angry attitude, people who fight with co-workers or curse at customers, people who steal from you if your back is turned, people who don't show up because they're too stoned -- THOSE are people which businesses have little interest in.
Which is another way of saying they are unemployable. Politicians ignore the root cause of unemployment for this group. They are unemployed because they have nothing to offer an employer.
What’s the complaint? This is exactly what they overwhelmingly voted for.
Although you are correct about the attitude, the fundamental problem is that taking an entry level job and working your ass off are not considered to be black values. You don't have to be educated to work in this country. In fact, the easiest jobs to walk in off the street and get require almost no education.
What is required to get a job is the desire to have a job. After that, if you want to keep the job and suceed, all that is really required is a strong work ethic.
The most fundamental problem is that way too many people in this country, who have very little to offer, consider themselves to be too good for the jobs that they are most suited for.
We are already sending too many people to college to fill the available positions that actually require a college education. If it weren't for government agency jobs, there wouldn't even be half those slots.
