Ted Cruz cites ‘Kill Bill’ against Harvey Weinstein

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is taking aim at movie producer Harvey Weinstein, calling the studio head a hypocrite for slamming the NRA, but using violence in his own films.

Citing Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film “Kill Bill” — which Weinstein produced — the Texas senator said the sword fight at the end of the movie is “one of the most epically violent scenes.”

“But you don’t see people wanting to ban knives,” Cruz said Thursday on Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

Cruz’s comments follow news that Weinstein — who co-heads The Weinstein Company production house with his brother — wants to target the NRA in a new film.

“I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on, and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein told Howard Stern on the latter’s radio show Wednesday, according to audio from Mediaite.

Cruz slammed Weinstein for living in “a fancy neighborhood with all sorts of police protection.”

“He says he doesn’t own a gun, but I bet you there’s a good odd that he has armed security around him,” Cruz said.

Cruz called Weinstein’s movies “left-wing propaganda,” and said “Hollywood liberal elites, they have their view of things.”

“We have a right to protect ourselves. It’s protected in the Constitution. Even if liberal Hollywood types want to take it away, it isn’t going anywhere,” Cruz said.

Cruz added that he sees the similarities between Washington and the West Coast.

“It’s the same pattern we see in Washington. It’s a double standard. It’s one rule for thee and one rule for me. So liberals love to live by special rules,” he said.

Communists always set up special rules for themselves and iron-fisted laws for everyone else.

Don’t waste your time. We all know he’s a hypocrite and a bag of hot gas.

I’ll bet Weinstein is responsible for more gratuitous violence than the NRA.

It’s an examination of the moral dynamic between them. It’s also very funny and completely gripping.

Cutting off people’s ears and nose, murdering people is funny?

No

It’s sick to find that inspiring or even entertaining

Not even interesting

You’ve got a lot of company, but, hey there are a ton of objectionable cultural trends. Pornography addiction is rampant and as well advised against as Marlborough lites in 1962

I always found the “spoof” idea to be a rationalization for showing a lot of violence. Tarantino wanted to make violent movies and still remain a liberal.

Now Weinstein will probably show lots of violence in the NRA movie, all the while claiming he is making a liberal point.

Sorry. A mask of irony does not cover all sins.

But Cruz is right about violence in the movies in general. We have a sick culture that promotes violence and immorality. Cruz won’t go that far, but he has picked the right target. It’s the same hypocrisy as the Tarantino movies, all the way to the bank.

And then everyone complains about real-life violence, and real-life illegitimacy. That’s what we’re showing to the impressionable, everywhere they look.

It’s gallows humor. Tarantino is testing what you will laugh at based on the situation and tone. Besides no one I know was ‘laughing’ at it. It was shocking considering what you were laughing at earlier. There are gruesome moments that are intended to be received this way in many classic works going back centuries.

As we know from Reservoir Dogs ...

... Harvey Weinstein has always been in "Big Razor's" back pocket ...

I don’t buy it, but let’s discuss again when the NRA travesty appears.

If you’re going to whine about Cruz who else is there? Way candidate do you have?

He’s not going to care what the libs say the way people here do. He doesn’t ask permission from them nor seek their approval

The libs are never going to approve of a good conservative candidate

The next pres run will be worse than ever for the GOP guy. And if he plays to that hoping to get a break he’ll lose

We’d better prepare for it

It’ll be like lone survivor, we either stay with our principals and forge ahead or beg the enemy to like us

I never saw any of those movies (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, etc.). But everything I saw of them through regular cultural osmosis — the previews, the clips, etc. — made me think of a place where apparently it’s hip to be slightly psychopathic. I may be way off base, but I have no interest in seeing them; they sound kind of miserable.
