It would take a 2/3 majority in the Senate, which is impossible (i.e., even if we* win EVERY Senate race this year—which won’t happen—we would still be a vote or two short).

Impeachment (in the House) and any subsequent trial (by the Senate) is a political response to presidential actions, regardless of the “high crimes and misdemeanors” phrase. There is not sufficient political will among the Republican members of the House of Representatives to seriously consider it, let alone carry it out. Nor is the coming mid-term election likely to change that, though it could well bring other advantages.

The problem with impeachment is that it presupposes and, in fact, affirms that the person legitimately acquired the office. Anyone who acquires an elected office, but was never qualified to do so in the first place has committed criminal fraud and deceit in the electoral process making the election illegitimate and a nullity in the inception. The remedy against someone who fraudulently gains office is to prosecute the unlawful offender for fraud. Obviously, in a totally corrupt political environment, the political hurdles existing for impeachment also prevail for prosecution. A special prosecutor needs to be appointed. If that power has been ceded to the Executive Branch, it needs to be taken back to the Legislative Branch.

The impeachment itself will be embarrassing as hell, whether or not (most likely not) that the Senate votes to convict. And the impeachment becomes part of the historical record, win or lose.

But don’t forget there’s a big election coming up! Ain’t NO candidate for Senate who wants to be known for voting to let Obummer off the hook for his shenanigans! And yes, we will be taking names!

Three things make impeachment impossible: First, the RINO leadership of the GOP doesn't have the gonads to do it regardless of what Obama does to deserve being impeached. Second, as they did with Clinton the Democrats will stand shoulder to shoulder to defend Obama. If they could defend Clinton's patent perjury in a sordid sexual affair they could defend anything Obama might do. Lastly, the media would rally to Obama blaming the GOP impeachment as being racist, a witch hunt,a threat to democracy etc.

I am convinced that Obama could suspend elections and declare himself dictator with little more than a whimper from the GOP leadership and do so to the applause of Democrats and the media.
