The elderly man accused of shooting a movie theater patron in Florida after an argument over text messaging told police that he fired because he "was in fear of being attacked."

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a news conference today that the victim, Chad Oulson, 43, was texting his young daughter's babysitter when an argument erupted with Reeves over texting during previews before the movie "Lone Survivor."

PEOPLE OF EARTH

We Romulans will be assuming total control of earth by July. Here is survival tip #342:

When in an entertainment or education venue when you need to send a digital communication or transmit a message via your mobile unit, you should leave the setting in which others are concentrating on the media and step out into the hallway or other area and engage in your communications.

This will increase your life expectancy up to 1.3 sun cycles.

Joey here is the kind of guy who goes into a cinema and then kicks the back of your seat while giggling.

Leaving a conversation with a series of ad-hominem attacks and closing with an appeal to authority is a great way to show that you have no rational argument to make.

Dude.

It's presented quite clearly as a hypothetical which matches all known facts of the case, but is at odds with the media narrative which is also a hypothetical but they aren't honest enough to say that.

In that both are fiction they are similar to an Abbott and Costello skit but without the humor.

All known facts of the case?

From what source did your narrative originate? Specifically, that Reeves politely asked Oulson to stop texting?

According to her story he was purportedly driven to distraction by the admitted rule violation (during the entire movie) yet he didn’t become violent in any way, nor was the precious young lady so intimidated that she stopped breaking the rules. For that matter, we don’t even know if her story is true. She hasn’t given sworn testimony, and she hasn’t been subjected to cross examination. The media has a very bad record of providing people to support their narrative that disappear or drastically change their story once being called to testify.

Yes, that’s what it’s been about for you all along, finding someone to put down as irrational who has been crystal clear and working from the apparent facts as reported.

I get your concern that the media will use this episode to hurt gun ownership. That’s no reason for you to pick a fight with another freeper who deplores the likely culpable actions of this one individual. Trying to run from the truth of it or cover it up doesn’t help either side of the gun debate in the long run. This guy blew it and hurt the cause of the 2nd Amendment. He should be the target of your ire, not the people who say he behaved detestably.

Joe sleeps with the fishes. In other words, he’s been sotted.

Well deserved.

“I did not read that the cop said a punch was an issue. For all we know, the popcorn was to divert from the deceased pulling his own weapon. If you have other info. other that original link post it.”

The point I was making was that you cant shoot someone because of what he or she “might” do.

Sure you can. Someone points a gun at you, you can shoot. Someone breaks into your home, by law you can shoot in most states. Most laws do not require you to necessarily incur an injury to be threatened. There was another case not too long ago in Florida involving a white hispanic and a black kid where these concepts (Castle Doctrine, Stand Your Ground and straight up self defense) were discussed at length. I would refer you to those threads.

She has given a statement to the police and it was used in the bail hearing, so apparently they are taking her at face value, not a media creation. And the judge denied him bond saying no evidence was presented that indicated he was a victim.

His behavior was extreme enough at that time that she made a point of remembering him. I actually identify with that, having had run ins with the occasional masher and or nutbar back when I was a usher/concessions girl. Theaters generally have “regulars” and some of them can be quirky and others are just downright unsavory.

Personally, I think they will find a neurological problem, Alzheimer’s or something seeing how there are extensive friends and family that say this behavior is out of character.

Point a gun at someone or breaking into their home are acts already committed when you shoot, not things you think they might do, both of which most people would say create a reasonable fear of harm.

You can’t shoot them if the gun is on the car seat and you think they might point it at you, nor if they are parked in front of your house and you think they might be about to break in.

So the question about the popcorn throwing, is whether that creates a reasonable fear of injury that justifies deadly force.

Another ad-hominem to start your comment? That makes it difficult to continue, but the truth is I'm just trying to calm down a lynch party that is ready to convict a guy that hasn't gone to trial yet and all the information we have has been from a biased media and the prosecution, yet I and most like minded posters are met with open hostility.

I didn't pick a fight with you, I hope you aren't taking it personally. I'm sure you are a perfectly decent person and I'm not making any personal attacks against your character or intelligence, I'm just pointing what I believe to be an error in your logic.

My only point here thought the entire thread that we don't know the truth either for or against the accused. We have only been presented one side of the story by a media with a known agenda. Once the truth comes out it could very well support self defense and there is no reason to believe otherwise at this point. Aren't you even a little skeptical of the media at this point? How many obvious and overt lies do we need to catch them at before the general public wakes up.

No I am not a 911 "truther".
