Jeanne Patterson really needs to see a doctor but had to cancel her appointment last week.
Why? Because her new Obamacare benefits were not in order, forcing her to spend hours and hours on hold with her insurer, Independence Blue Cross.
Many folks who signed up for coverage through the state and federal exchanges are running into roadblocks now that they are trying to use their new benefits. And though exchange officials and insurers have urged consumers to call their insurers if they encounter problems, many say they either wait endlessly on hold or get the runaround. Coverage for the first wave of Obamacare applicants took effect Jan. 1.
Pattersons journey started New Years Day, when she landed in the emergency room for a stomach ailment. The Independence policy number she received didnt work and the hospital required her to sign a form saying she would pay for care herself, though it agreed to bill her later. She then received an ID card for her HMO plan in the mail a few days later, so she made an appointment with her primary care doctor and a gastric specialist for follow up.
But when the 59-year-old went to her doctor last week, she was told he couldnt see her because she hadnt designated him as her primary care provider. If she wanted to be treated, shed have to pay for the visit and lab work and request reimbursement. She spent an hour on hold with Independence trying to fix the problem and left the office without care.

Obamacare: Pay for coverage and then get no treatment.
Where do I sign up?/s
As many others have said here before ...having insurance does not automatically mean getting the care you seek.
But what you wanna bet Ms. Patterson voted for The One and all his grand ideas?
No benefits, near infinite delays to see
untrained illegal immigrant “doctors”.
And, if there is a problem, then the administrators
are criminal felons and illegal aliens as
will be the “lawyers” to ‘help’.
ObamaCARE is taxes, fees, fines, and DEATHpanels
and has absolutely nothing to do with
what was once ‘healthcare’.
Hint: There is a reason that SCOTUS and Congress and POTUS
made themselves and THEIR families and staff: EXEMPT.
I work in retail health, and cannot tell you the number of people I’m seeing that have either been dropped from their insurance, or their primary care doc has left to go concierge.
Bump
The important thing is to be ‘covered’.
Dems will blame these all on the insurance companies.
My daughter works in admissions at a nursing home. It is her job to verify insurance coverage for people coming in for rehab. Since January 1 she has had a lot of problems. Insurance companies saying they can’t verify benefits because the plans aren’t clear. One told her to call back in ten days. She explained the patient was waiting to leave the hospital and be admitted and she couldn’t wait ten days. The insurance employee (who had a very Indian accent) said okay, put down we’ll pay 70%. My daughter says okay, you’ll pay 70%? Woman said no, I can’t tell you for sure.
Imagine this multiplied by the millions across the country at hospitals and doctors’ offices. I think it will only get worse. Obama is a disaster for America and republicans have been no help at all.
I have heard of an enrollment period, but never being told you can't cancel a policy? Interesting as there is another thread posted today talking about a woman trying to cancel the policy she signed up for, now that her old insurance was reinstated. She tried for 7 hours to cancel her auto-deduction for 0bamacare and can't.
A New Obamacare Wrinkle. You Can Not Cancel Auto-pay
Why do think that's a good bet?
With Obamacare, you better ask how much the treatment will be!
Massive deductibles & co-Pays will cause a complete failure in this whole thing, IMO.
As badly as we need jobs in the USA, note that this caller got a person with a Hindu Indian accent when she called for information........
Change bank accounts where the automatic deduction is coming out of.
The ObamaCare ‘success stories’ are just beginning..
