Ninety-two million Americans are not in the work force—they don’t have jobs and they aren’t looking for jobs.
These 92 million Americans aren’t just out of work—they are resigned to being out of work as a way of life.
The ballooning numbers of Americans who are resigned to long-term joblessness inspired Roger L. Simon to suggest in a bleakly humorous piece over at PJ Media that Americans are going Galt:
Tell all your “Objectivist” friends and the libertarian gang at Reason magazine to break out the champagne. Americans may have skipped the movie of Atlas Shrugged, nor have many read any of Ayn Rand’s works, but they have taken the author’s advice anyway and gone John Galt, quitting the work force in record numbers. According to Zero Hedge, the latest figures show the labor participation rate at 35 year low.
Realistically, it’s even more than 35 because that figure reflects an employment bump when larger numbers of women joined the work force in the seventies and eighties. (They’re gone now, with or without Gloria Steinem.)
Currently a record 91.8 million Americans are no longer looking for work. That’s almost one and a half times the entire population of France.
We are heading for a disaster. A shrinking workforce won’t be able to pay for the nation’s vast array of entitlements. Moreover, many of these non-working adults, men and women who in previous generations would have met their own financial needs, are now receiving assistance. This is an unsustainable economic situation.
But this situation is not merely economically unsustainable. It is spiritually unsustainable:

Why work with endless entitlements?
I think States need to start stepping up and say the hell with Federal laws. If enough states did it would cripple what the federal government could do and that’s what’s needed.
If South Carolina bans Obamacare that’s a great in your face to the federal government. More states need to step up and if you hate what that state is doing.. don’t go there.
Something missed is that “going Galt” is a choice. Obamanomics has taken that choice and pretty much forced it on the country. Throw in another 50 million new immigrants through amnesty and the real party begins.
If we brought back the jobs, we would need to import more immigrants to fill the positions.
Those 90 million out of the work force aren’t going to flock to the jobs. A percentage of them will, many won’t.
Why?
They are no longer willing to pull the wagon. It’s easier to ride.
They would lose their benefits.
A certain percentage are tired of being flogged for succeeding.

The EPA would throw endless roadblocks in front of those wishing to start enterprises that would be needed to bring back jobs. Manufacturing jobs rather than assembly work involve pollutants. We’ve exported much of our pollution.
To bring back investments to America to start jobs, corporations would pay taxes on those profits earned overseas and be left with what was left over to “bring back American jobs”. Then get taxed again once they began to earn profits again.
Keep waving that magic wand. It won’t hurt.

Ditto to “exactly”; I’ve read the book and seen the movie. Ann Rand’s Going Galton means exactly the opposite of what those who have dropped out of the workforce represent.
“All I know is that amnesty will fix this.”
The supporters of amnesty are looking for a way to replace the next generation of Americans that isn’t being born as men stop “playing the game”; they don’t need the illegals here as workers (we have plenty of those), they need them here as CONSUMERS (of housing, public schooling, and such - everything that American 10 year-olds would be using if there were any).
Atlas Shrugged. Why work to pay for all the deadbeats and illegals that get your money.

Nobody wants to hear it, but Asia's economies are getting freer every year, while Western economies (with France in the lead) are becoming more and more Stalinist. The world's move to Asia isn't really about cost control.

Actually it is about profitability. You subcontract manufacturing or close the doors. Companies that are not profitable die and jobs they tried to maintain with no sales just cease to exist.
You fail to consider that only a living company hires
Only for those “Americans” to unionize the plant and produce crap? No thanks.
That's a great mantra, and something I'd like to see too, but keep wishing. The governmental rules and laws are seeing to that. Unions are still willing to see a company drown instead of using reason. The education system, if you even want to call it that anymore, has not produced the skills, or inclination, to enter a manufacturing related occupation. So we are probably a good 12-20 years of away from taking back our manufacturing leadership. That would be an aggressive estimate. Even the soft skills (administrative) roles would be challenging for many recent college grads, let alone high school grads.
I've spent a lot of time in China, and Asia in particular. I'll even admit to sending work over there. But it was a business decision and driven by the market. When lower prices are being demanded, you can respond, or you can close the doors. So the problem is much more challenging than just bringing jobs back to America.
As fast as I can, I have the land, as soon as I have my ranch built and paid for I will be there.
How are the 92 million able to live? You can only mooch for so long.

There's a way that the whole thing can be forced; all we really need is a single governor to have some balls to force the immigration/amnesty issue: like so.
The assumption that everyone who worked in manufacturing would get retrained and work in technology was always insane. A very large percentage are suited to hands-on activity oriented work, not sedentary days.
The other assumption that's insane is that lower-income people will find other employment when they can be replaced by invaders and other cheap foreign labor.
What's happening without these jobs being held by US citizens is planners striving for good conclusions from bad premises. The logical side of me cringes.
It however doesn’t change that China is a closed society with more than a billion people, who now export a huge portion of America’s goods right back to us.
Making China stronger, and America weaker.
China isn’t like America. Americans cannot buy land in China. Yet Chinese can buy land in America.
Everything is biased in China’s favor. That must change.
Or America will simply collapse.
We cannot continue to send American industry to China.
Bring back American jobs.
Back to America.
The lawsuit filed in 1997 cited Article 4 of the Constitution, which says that the United States “shall protect each of [the states] against invasion.” But U.S. District Judge Judith Keep in San Diego and the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco threw out the lawsuit on grounds that California and Arizona are not being “invaded” by a hostile, foreign power.
My guess is the same thing would happen again.
