The Weather Channel asked its viewers Saturday to urge Congress to intervene in its business dispute with DirecTV, arguing that it can harm public safety if the satellite system pulls the network off the air for nearly 20 million viewers.
The network's contract with DirecTV expires at the end of Monday. If an agreement on how much DirecTV pays The Weather Channel is not reached by then, TWC will likely stop airing on the system.
The Weather Channel is asking for a "negligible" increase in what DirecTV pays to air the channel, spokeswoman Shirley Powell said. While hoping for an agreement, "right now it's not looking so good."
DirecTV notes that there are many other ways its customers can get weather forecasts.

Pure scare tactics by the WC. They want DTV to take minimum payments so they can pocket the money and give to Algore and his mob for pushing this hoax. I don’t care if they take it off my DirecTV. In fact, DTV could take about 98% of what is on my channels off and give me back my money too boot.

The weather channel is kind of egotistic if they think people have no other venue to get weather information from. And isn’t Congress getting involved with private business disputes the last we want?

Hooray for Direct TV, I used to be a loyal Dish fan until I got their HDTV upgrade, it never worked correctly, customer service was terrible and I eventually just unhooked everything and went Direct, never been happier, and thats for me in Alaska, Direct gets a better signal than Dish for some reason.

Weather...on the Weather Channel???That`s funny. If you want CURRENT weather..look outside. If you want stories about weather 20 years ago WHILE a tornado is in your area..TWC is indispensable. Talk about a USELESS channel! Its about Charging more they haven`t done actual weather in years.

Me too and I don’t even know what channel it’s on.
If I want to know the weather, first I walk outside.
If I need an “extended forecast”, I check the interwebs.
I would assume that TWC is trying jack up its prices again.
Ever notice how TWC’s national maps are no longer “straight on” Mercator projections with KS/MO flat in the center, but tilted so that TX, FL, etc predominate at the northeast is a tiny indistinct blip? Main reason why I watch it as little as possible.
We already have national system for disasters. The weather channel is a private business.
BTW, I never watch the channel. It could get dropped and I’d never notice it.
reminds me of Katrina with Katie Couric, I believe it was, sitting in a boat with a paddle while people walked by in the ankle deep water.

Hopefully this will go through, so that many will be able to see another row boat struggling in the torid floods on a hard asphalt parking lot.
