Keep minimum wage exactly where it is at.
However, bring back American jobs now.
This man is not a conservative or libertarian, he is a fool
Why not boost the California minimum wage to exactly the same hourly rate earned by California legislators.
I have no problem with California doing this and seeing if it works. I’ll be watching from out of state though.
Business will respond in one of two ways with an increase in minimum wage (or do both). Fire someone or increase prices.
The net effect of increasing minimum wage with out an increase in production is more unemployment and higher prices.
Really the only ones that benefit from increasing minimum wage are unions, especially government employee unions since they are free from all normal economic restraints.
If jobs and upward mobility are the golden “eggs,” then when foxes are in charge of the hen house, egg production will soon become nonexistent.
One thing is for sure - if we’d just handed the cash to poor people starting in the 60s instead of wasting trillions as we’ve done on social engineering welfare programs, it would have done more good.
I want minimum wage at 3 mexican pesos so these lazy turds on the govt dole would finally get off their asses, use their brains, and get an actual job. It’s not my fault you ask me which combo size of burgers I want..
Minimum wage in CA is currently at $8 per hour. July 1 it jumps to $9 per hour. Jan 1, 2016 it jumps to $10 per hour. We are getting to $12 just a little slower.
Unz is hard to pin down ideologically. He ran against Pete Wilson in California in 1994. Was Ron Unz the conservative alternative to the liberal Wilson? Or did Unz's stand on immigration make him more liberal than Wilson? Hard to untangle, maybe?
Unz's idea here is that higher working wages would mean the working poor wouldn't have to rely on government benefits like food stamps and medicaid. I don't think it would work out that way, but will resist the temptation to simply pile on and attack the man for expressing his opinion.
so we will have even LESS jobs and ever the more people signing up for the dole...
will these destructive people ever quit ? !?
hang on, friends, hang on... we have 3 more years of this downwards spiral....
But he's dead wrong here.
Since the inception of establishing a minimum wage the very basic coin of the realm, the cent, has become valueless. Todays penny costs more to make than its assigned value. Even Canada stopped making them.
Yet this is not an argument for abolishing the coin itself. But to point out when a minimum wage rate is raised it affixes a given rate of inflation to the period of time its emplaced. All raising the minimum wage does actually is devalue the dollar because costs (purchase prices) eventually get adjusted in time, which is never discussed by those advancing the argument, to compensate for the devalued increase..
When economists discuss monetary value, which is the purchasing power of that unit, they allways refer to the top value of the coin of the realm in our (US) case it’s the dollar which is composed of 100 cents not the most basic unit which is the penny. .
A case in point is in the 1940s a candy bar cost 5 cents when the hourly minimum wage was $.50 per hour. What does it cost today ? Likewise what were the costs of basic goods and services during that period of time as compared with todays basic wage feel good tinkering ?
Who gets hurt the worst when these adjustments are decreed by government? Its those living on fixed incomes whos income value is based on previous minimum wage levels such as social security but not adjusted to the previous current rates of inflation. and that also includes living on government subsidies because those subsidies eventually get increased. .
When these feel good socialists frauds under the democrat party banner propose these increases. That is never considered as they pound their breasts claiming theyre for the little guy. All theyre doing is un-necessarily raising the price on goods and services broadening the demand that those affected seek help from them..
How does someone live on $8.50 an hour?
So for an extra $3/hr ($9-$12) the low paid workers will give up $5/hr in freebies? Not likely. But make it gainful and there are plenty of retirees who would be happy for part time work. Retirees don't need healthcare or unions and show up on time.
Yeah, right like the Gubermint wouldn't tweak the threshold for qualifying for Welfare/EBT etc. They would have their $12 per hour, and their welfare on the Middle classes teat.
A very high minimum wage makes the "riff-raff" too expensive to employ.
Maybe he's trying to drive away the poor.
It's a sneaky way of "cleaning up" California.
If this guy has just one employee making less than $12, he needs to be exposed.
The jobs created will be enormous. Tens of Thousands will flock to California to reap the good paying jobs harvest.
Business will grow by leaps and bounds......... it will be a miracle
