LOS ANGELES (AP) Democrats across the nation are eager to make increasing the minimum wage a defining campaign issue in 2014, but in California a proposal to boost the pay rate to $12 an hour is coming from a different point on the political compass.
Ron Unz, a Silicon Valley multimillionaire and registered Republican who once ran for governor and, briefly, U.S. Senate, wants state voters to endorse the wage jump that he predicts would nourish the economy and lift low-paid workers from dependency on food stamps and other assistance bankrolled by taxpayers.
A push for bigger paychecks for workers at the lower rungs of the economic ladder is typically associated with Democrats President Barack Obama is supporting a bill in Congress that would elevate the $7.25 federal minimum to over $10 an hour.

Keep minimum wage exactly where it is at.
However, bring back American jobs now.

Why not boost the California minimum wage to exactly the same hourly rate earned by California legislators.
I have no problem with California doing this and seeing if it works. I’ll be watching from out of state though.
Do you remember the campaign to pass Prop 187? Our attempt to do something about the flood of illegals inundating California?
Ron Unz supported the illegal aliens in that fight. There’s a great picture of him giving a speech surrounded by a sea of Mexican flags.
Business will respond in one of two ways with an increase in minimum wage (or do both). Fire someone or increase prices.
The net effect of increasing minimum wage with out an increase in production is more unemployment and higher prices.

However, bring back American jobs now.
Eliminate the minimum wage and create jobs even faster.

So in order to fight “unions” (a very small portion of America’s workforce anymore) we send jobs to for example...
The PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA?
The largest union in history?
Sure. I’m following that plan. You betcha.
One thing is for sure - if we’d just handed the cash to poor people starting in the 60s instead of wasting trillions as we’ve done on social engineering welfare programs, it would have done more good.
I want minimum wage at 3 mexican pesos so these lazy turds on the govt dole would finally get off their asses, use their brains, and get an actual job. It’s not my fault you ask me which combo size of burgers I want..
Today's teens are no longer mowing lawns, shoveling snow, or starting at the bottom. They've been indoctrinated to go to college and achieve some worthless degree in diversity or gender studies.
Rowe said there's actually tons of jobs available but these jobs no one wants to do because they think its beneath them or they don't have the basic skills to do them.
He does not realize that labor costs are a Major part of product costs. Once you raise minimum wage, retailers will have to raise their prices, the government will recalculate the poverty level because everything is more expensive and we will be right back where we started.
