Iran and Russia are negotiating an oil-for-goods swap worth $1.5 billion a month that would let Iran lift oil exports substantially, in defiance of Western sanctions that helped force Tehran to agree a preliminary deal to end its nuclear program.
Russian and Iranian sources close to the barter negotiations said final details were in discussion for a deal that would see Moscow buy up to 500,000 barrels a day of Iranian oil in exchange for Russian equipment and goods.
"Good progress is being made at the moment with strong chances of success," said a Russian source. "We are discussing the details and the date of signing a deal depends on those details." The Kremlin declined comment.

This is just a way to allow the Iranians to keep on with their nuclear bomb program
I do have information that Iran is planning on opening their economy to the rest of the world. The Chinese have been there as investors and the Europeans are investing via investment firms located in Turkey.
They will have the bomb within the year... unless they are attacked by Israel and the Saudis.
It's not about Russia needing oil, it's about who controls and prices the oil that goes to Western Europe, and the banking system that the payments move through.
This denies the Saudis the oil and gas sales and the funding of Muslim Brotherhood and Wahhabi terrorism, and forces WE states to pay market prices for oil, preventing them from blackmailing Eastern European states for energy and EU debt slavery.

By using the approximately 8,800 first-generation centrifuges operating at its Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant, Iran could theoretically produce enough weapon-grade uranium to fuel a single nuclear warhead in about 1.7 months.

I agree with your take. And what Russia seems to miss, is that when Iran has this technology, it’s going to destabilize more than the Middle-East. In short order Russia will be within range of Iraq’s missiles. Then you have the Mullah’s with their collective mental capacity, making decisions you’re going to have to live with.
I discount the missile threat, but there are Islamic groups all too willing to carry a small nuke into Russia on a vendetta.
Putin can’t figure that out?
Our good friend (/s) has been overcoming our sanctions all along. We don’t say anything except we’re destroying them with our sanctions. It’s just not true.
