Record cold doesn't disprove global warming

On average, the high temperatures are getting higher, and the lows are getting higher too. Global warming is as real and serious as ever, it's just exceedingly gradual compared with the dramatic temperature swings that are still part of living in midlatitudes in winter.

I had fun trolling some idiot libs today, told them that "Of course the ice breaker got stuck near Antarctica, it is winter and in winter the ice freezes, the ice caps almost melt in summer and even more since global warming"

The morons believed me and when i confronted them with the fact I was trolling(lying) to them and that is was summer in Antarctica they didn't believe me and thought I was lying about lying to them...

Here's a Terra/MODIS view from 01/04/2014 23:10 UTC showing the Bering Sea under broken cloud cover. At top center you can see a snow covered St. Matthew's Island in ice free seas, and you can see new ice forming to the north in the form of snaky tendrils.

Circa 2008 this new ice was forming around St. Matthew's Island around Christmas. So all I'm saying is, don't go off half cocked!

Record cold in January or record heat in August is not dispositive of climate change. Over the last 130 years the average (5 year running average) temperature has gone up about 1 C. There is no evidence or model that can explain this satisfactorily or provide any proof that the act of mankind is the agent.

Have you ever tried to go back and look at the initial temperature data? The old thermometer (that's right thermometer, remember them?) readings. The ones that were written down by hand and kept on paper. Well, they are just plain not available. The only records left are the computer print-outs that have been "corrected" for some kind of bias that no one can explain.

And, when one looks carefully at the "corrections" it turns out that the older the data the more the temperature has been corrected down. These "corrections" are more than satisfactory evidence that the warming trend is indeed man-made, but not man-made in the sense you mean, man-made in these sense that the real data has been systematically biased toward "colder in the past".

Until Michael Mann and his merry band of miscreant charlatans are willing to disclose the original data, the "corrected" data is good for nothing but wrapping fish.

Let's face it, to the faithful nothing, I mean absolutely nothing will disprove global warming. They believe in it as deeply as you do your religious faith. We could have glaciers pushing down across MN and ND and they would still claim global warming was the cause.

I actually tried this. Ran into an acquaintance who was talking to someone I didn't know (and still don't). Stranger is "one of them" and they were debating GW. I finally asked the guy point blank "What kind of verifiable evidence would you need to see to believe there is no global warming?" I got a blank stare. They are apparently so invested in this they literally unable to comprehend any alternative or that they are in fact wrong.
