At least 38 million U.S. adults drink too much, and most of them are not alcoholics, according to a new Vital Signs report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
For every one person who is alcoholic there are about six who are problem drinkers, drinking enough to adversely affect their lives, their health, their work situation or family situation, CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden said.
Three-quarters of Americans who drink too much are considered binge drinkers. This includes men who consume more than four alcoholic drinks in one setting and women who consume more than three.
But excessive drinking can also include high average drinkers (men who consume more than an average of two drinks per day or 14 per week and women who average more than one drink per day or seven per week). Any alcohol consumed by pregnant women, people under the age of 21 or people driving cars or operating heavy machinery is considered too much, Frieden said.

NONE of which are any of their business unless that's what I went there about. I don't go there to be "screened", I go because I have some illness or injury I can't deal with in-house.
Wait....they city of New York has a single department that employs 6,000 drones??? I’m surprised and appalled that the ENTIRE goobermint of the city of Noo Yawk isn’t substantially less than 6,000 drones.
Don’t you just love liberal nutcase busy bodies who think they can run our lives better than us?! I think I’ll go have a drink and a bowl of ice cream just to p*ss them off!
Don’t forget to go out and fire up the SUV and leave it idling in the driveway before you get that drink and ice cream!
I haven’t tried those. Clausthaler comes with high recommendations...I may have to try it next time I’m in the mood for a beer.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Will do!
lol...yeah, that’s “much” better than having a real beer.
Check out the Sinclair Method (there’s a book on it and also many web sites) if you want to reduce your alcohol consumption or end it altogether. Someone very close to me who was a huge binge drinker used the Sinclair Method and stopped drinking altogether. (Frankly, I was astounded.) It’s widely used in Europe. Freepmail me if you need more info.
Best of luck with your resolution!
Curiously enough, the nanny state that hates alcohol and tobacco (supposedly for health reasons) is all in favor of smoking dope. I’m puzzled by this.
Regular pot use has been repeatedly proven to have very negative effects, particularly on the adolescent brain, and even to result in schizophrenic episodes, and marijuana smoke actually has heavier tars than tobacco smoke and can cause emphysema. So why is it the darling of the nanny state now? Mayberry because dopers are easier to control.
Give if up if you feel you must but this article is about healthcare rationing and neoprohibition.
The DWI and PI standard is ebbing to anything more than 2 drinks (currently 2 drinks including beer in an hour).
It will be in your permanent record and used to decline coverage as a patient deals with obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, and other issues. May even be used to prohibit gun ownership.
The new measure is 2 drinks. PERIOD. It's for your own good. Like a ban on 32oz sodas (yet Nannybloomerg didn't take the 40oz malt liquor out of the hood).
I suspect that they tend to screen you for AIDS as a self defense mechanism.
That I probably wouldn't object to because it's something they have a legitimate interest in aside from what brought me there.
” - - - They can quit with no withdrawal symptoms - - - “ as of now.
This guy apparently missed the study that came out about a week or so ago stating that drinkers live longer than non drinkers. :-)
AA can be helpful and IMHO if alcohol is getting in the way of one’s life, one is an alcoholic.
Fastest and most effective? Ninety meetings in ninety days...or more.
Hey there, LS, happy new year to you!
Hey there, DO! Happy New Year to you!
I don’t drink much, but when I do, I stop when John McCain starts making sense...;)
