The chart above, produced by the right-leaning research firm NMRPP and first published in the Washington Post last week, shows the comparative political inclinations (and relative voter turnouts) associated with the drinkers of various major liquor brands.
At first glance this may look like it conforms to some basic stereotypes about the two partiesDemocrats like wine! Republicans like whiskey!but wine actually runs the whole political scale, with Smoking Loon drunk primarily by Democrats, and Robert Mondavi drunk primarily by Republicans. Major whiskey brands do generally show a Republican bent, with the exception of Jameson, Canadian Mist, and Glen Ellen.
Gin is nearly exclusively Democratic, but the real lesson of the chart is to stay away from Jägermeister, a bi-partisan scourge that apparently renders you unable to get up and vote.
The wines produced in that area are not necessarily cheap.
IIRC, after the first few airings, they changed the song in the background.
Gin: the only liquor I know that tastes better coming back up that when it is going down.
Abstaining from alcohol doesn’t make you live longer - it just feels that way. :)
“No Old Overholt on the chart. I must be too drunk to vote.”
Nor Old Grand-Dad, the favorite of 007 when in the U.S.
“Diabetes and hypertension” Check and Check!
Jim Beam is on that chart, near the line almost all the way to the right.
And how can you even stand Evan Williams? That stuff is nasty.
That FR has a ‘bourbon list’ pretty much says it all.
I’ve heard a story that when someone complained to Lincoln about Gen. Grant’s drinking, Lincoln remarked that they should find out what brand of whiskey he drank and give it to the rest of the Union’s generals.
Democrats go for the sicky-sweet drinks, Republicans like their liquor dry.
Aninteresting side note:
Would the media compose a chart of “politically preferred” types of MJ?
Evan Williams (especially the green bottle) is an acquired taste. I acquired it when I was young and poor... Just always be sure to mix it with something with flavor, not water...
However, they do have a single barrel version (about $25 a bottle here in OK) that it is quite drinkable.
All I’ve ever had was their cheapest stuff. Even mixed with something, it was borderline undrinkable. I guess I’ll have to check out their better offerings.
I’m up there with the high Republicans. Thank goodness, I would have dumped my libation had it been a liberal one.
My liberal sister-in-law seriously drinks wine but as long as it’s wine, doesn’t matter the maker.
Well, FR doesn’t “have” a bourbon list.
FR provides band width for Cletus to maintain a ping list related to “bourbon” topics.
Y’all calvinist/babdists need to lighten up.
The single barrel is okay. It helps that it is 90-some proof. (I like the higher alcohol content liquors.) But, Evan Williams has its own distinctive taste: you either like it or not, not much in between. If you are used to something smooth, this is not it.
Glenlivet is for Rhinos!
I like Wild Turkey 101, Elmer T. Lee, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Knob Creek, Booker’s, etc.
I like bourbon.
Makes no difference if the wymens is left-leaning drunk or right-leaning drunk...if it’s last call.
