The reemergence of a Democratic left will be one of the major stories of 2014. Moderates, dont be alarmed. The return of a viable, vocal left will actually be good news for the political center.
For a long time, the American conversation has been terribly distorted because an active, uncompromising political right has not had to face a comparably influential left. As a result, our entire debate has been dragged in a conservative direction, meaning that the center has been pulled that way, too.

Out of the communist closet and sheeps clothing bit by bit.
Lately they have made fun of Pearl Harbor veterans. We always knew they were Hitler power closet admirers. It only is a matter of time.
...because the American people finally recognize the Mack Daddy for what he is....
His argument pretty much comes down to more cowbell.
The left tried obfuscation, and that didn’t work. So now they come into the open...
E .J. Dionner is obviously a raging Communist. Now he can crow about it.
Almost as if the WashPost was trying to split the pendulum of opinion into a bifurcated mechanism, swing to the left at exact countermeasure to the swing to the right.
Or maybe just a little bit more, hmmmm?
Except that the “swing to the left” is almost always destructive, and the attempted “swing to the right” is an attempt to reassemble and improve the broken principles scattered all over the floor.
We have reached a point where the place has to be cleaned up before we can even begin to rebuild. Most of the ideals that once constituted “the United States of America” are either lying in wreckage or badly damaged.
Dionne, where the hell have you been? They have been resurgent since 2008, and now we have the horror stories of Obamacare, massive voter fraud, misappropriation of Federal funds for elections, an Orwellian Police State, international scorn for our incredible incompetence overseas, constant joblessness, near-bankruptcy nationally, and about 10 major scandals a year (that the complicit press ignores).
I was having this discussion with my mother-in-law yesterday. The left is no longer shy about their intentions, and in fact they are pushing even harder to the left and being very public about it. At some point in the very near future, like around the end of October, the American voting public will have a very clear choice to make: vote for Republicans to keep America center-right or vote for Democrats to pull America’s political pendulum far to the left keeping in mind that, like a pendulum, it will eventually swing hard in the other direction.
I believe we will see a very contentious midterm election period starting in August if not earlier. The Democrats are pushing for more socialism, more “redistribution,” and more “equality,” while the Republicans, albeit misguided in most cases, will at least try to keep our country stable and act as a bulwark against Obama’s tyranny.
Honestly, folks, the midterms in November will be a watershed moment for America. On one side, a Democrat win means Obama thinks he has a mandate and tyranny will increase by orders of magnitude. On the other side, a Republic win will help keep Obama in check for the next couple years while we try to get our shit together for the presidential race in 2016.
Resurgent progressives....mental image of a “whack a mole” game.
The “political left” was not the result of the Tea Party but its cause; that is, after the election of Obama, which was the beginning of the reign of the hard left in the Dem party, the relentless sealing off and suppression of political dialogue or even debate (Reid has prevented the GOP from discussing or offering amendments at twice the rate of all of his predecessors) by Obama and the hard left Dems forced conservatives to express their disagreement outside of the standard political system.
It seems not to occur to the Dems that we had a system that permitted and even needed disagreement and opposing views in order to work effectively. Having a one-party dictatorship headed by a demagogue, which is essentially what we have moved to, is bound to produce reaction and conflict.
when they drop the mask, they get beat.
Reemergence?
LOL
"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."
A Landslide Mandate For Change
A breakthrough election
Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!
We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-peoples movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all peoples movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and peoples unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.
