CFLs have been proven a sham over and over again. The new great wonder, LEDs.

It is interesting that they share the same heat problems with CFLs. LEDs in a closed fixture and\or inverted will burn out before an incandescent. LEDs biggest scam right now is claiming that a light is a 65 watt equivalent but when you read the lumens it's more like a 40.

Has anyone else noticed that it's getting hard to find any kind of bulb with higher watts?

"It was the GOP and Upton that passed this crap."

We've got plenty of Libs in the GOP! It's virtually a one party system at this point.

What does it take to repeal this idiocy?

It starts by replacing all of the dim bulbs in Washington DC.

Good answer. What does it take to do that?

A FREEPER WROTE.............

I saw one of these light bulbs at Meijer just last weekend.
Meijer is a regional store - similar to Wal-Mart, carrying groceries and household items.

Also - check for 29 watt, 53 watt, etc. bulbs at the store.

A Manufacturer Found a Loophole Around That Incandescent Light Bulb Ban

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/12/24/a-manufacturer-found-a-loophole-around-that-incandescent-light-bulb-ban/

Excerpt:
With millions of people still supporting the use of incandescent bulbs, Birnbaum found a loophole in the Energy Independence and Security Act. The ban applies to general service incandescent light bulbs but not rough service incandescents.

While frequently used in automobiles, subway systems and other applications that require a heavy-duty, vibration-resistant bulb, rough service bulbs can still be used in a general application, according to Birnbaum.

The website Bulbs.com breaks it down this way: “Rough service lamps function identically to regular incandescent lamps, but generally have additional wire within the glass enclosure that serves to protect and support the filament.” [emphasis added]

I wonder how difficult it would be for someone to make their own bulbs. They’ve been around for over a century and are very inexpensive. Wouldn’t think there would be much to it.

Exactly. “Say what, I ain’t paying dat fer no steenkin light bulb, my po chilren can’t read wit out lectric and I has to buy milk.”

So, a light bulb subsidy will be added to their food stamps. It’s a done deal.

I wonder if incandescents can be manufactured by private individuals outside of federal regulatory jurisdiction. 3D printing comes to mind, but I doubt that could work. Unassembled kits, perhaps? Creating the vacuum could be an issue. Don’t know. Just thinking out loud.

Rough service light bulbs have been sold for years. They are among the 22 exemptions to the phase out of incandescent light bulbs. 3-way light bulbs are also exempted from the phase out. The same companies which sold these bulbs before, both in hardware stores and online, will continue to sell these bulbs in hardware stores and online. There's no secret loophole. There's no need to find a new manufacturer. This company is only profiting from the ignorance of consumers. Go ahead and buy his bulbs if it makes sense. Or continue buying from the folks who have made them for years.

Personally, I'm moving to LED bulbs! Why spend money on a bulb which creates 90% heat and only 10% light?

There really aren’t any exemptions. The law has a tracking provision that monitors the sales rates of the exempt bulbs. If the sales rates of any of the exempt bulbs goes up too much, they will be severely restricted as well.

I think I finally know what “a dog whistle” is. Someone blows the light bulb whistle and the (light bulb breed) dogs come running.

This is just SILLY. While I will agree that this should have been left to the marketplace not the government, incandescent light bulbs are today’s equivalent of whale oil lamps. ILBs waste energy. They are short lived. They are dangerous as they can cause fires.

CFLs are not dangerous. How many (much larger) fluorescent light bulbs (all commercial buildings) have gone into the trash since the thirties? It is just silly to claim that CFLs will have any impact on the environment.

While CFLs have improved, they will soon be completely replaced with even better LED light bulbs.

So to all you band wagon riders.....JUMP OFF! Think for yourselves. Do your own investigations.

The Socialists are in charge of our government, our foreign policy is in shambles, our elections are corrupt, our freedoms of speech and religion, along with almost ALL other freedoms in the bill of rights, are being eroded if not destroyed. We are borrowing and printing our way to financial oblivion, AND YOU ARE EXORCISED, (erroneously, I might add), over fricking LIGHT BULBS?
