Just as you were wrapping your mind around the idea that under Obamacare and the accompanying changes in the health-care system, your medical records will be floating around in some online repository, available to far too many people, you’re being told you’ll soon have a National Identity Card and a Western Hemisphere-compliant travel document whether you want it or not, if you plan to drive in the United States.
The federal government says it soon will be enforcing its demands that state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards comply with Department of Homeland Security standards.
DHS announced just before Christmas a final schedule for the full enforcement of the REAL ID Act of 2005.
That was set for a phased implementation beginning in January 2014 and full-scale enforcement planned no later than May 2017, at which time the federal government will no longer accept state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards that do not meet the minimum security standards set by DHS.
For many Americans, the full implementation of the REAL ID act is certain to trigger unfortunate memories of World War II and the modus operandi of fascist, totalitarian states, where travelers and ordinary citizens on the street are stopped by authorities and demanded, “Your papers, please!”
In the U.S., the justification for the REAL ID Act of 2005 was the concern for enhanced travel security after the 9/11 Commission documented several of the 9/11 terrorists had valid state-issued driver’s licenses and were able to freely board airplanes even though they were terrorists who had entered the U.S. illegally.

BTW, went to Barrankas National Cemetery yesterday and the entrance to Pensacola NAS was now configured with a single line maze style configuration to get in and not as radical but still one lane “managed” exit. Also, starting today, it will take two forms of ID to get onto the base.

MY state does not require a driver’s license that contains ones social security number. You can specifically require that it does not contain it and the number assigned is different. Mine does not. And it is free, to boot because I am a Georgia-inducted veteran.
Driving in Georgia is a privilege afforded to Georgia citizens by the State - not the f@cking federal government.
I don’t need to ‘prove’ who I am. Georgia knows.

I have it on good authority that all of the terrorists had fully functioning, unrestricted, unregulated, feet and legs. This allowed them to move about communities AND airports at will. Is the solution to shackle everyone and only allow the TSA to unlock people who can demonstrate they have no nefarious intent with all this unmonitored walking-around?

Wrong. I live in Georgia too and when I renewed my license I had to show my social security card AND my birth certificate. All new licenses require the same and the DDS site actually touts its compliance with the Real ID act.

What can stop this cold in its track is to require these IDs be presented when registering to vote.
Ky. is one of the states not compliant with the ID law. The Feds just gave a grant a few years ago and the money was for a new courthouse, when I got a new license and noticed they used a biometeric camera, I asked if that was what it was and was told yes. I asked what else I could do was told if wanted license had to have a biometeric pic. I did so, now I know why.
The Fed money also paid for the courthouse and installed cameras that cover every inch of our small town. Once they have the biometeric shot of you they can pick you out of a crowd and follow you anywhere you go.
Got stopped at a road block recently. Asked for my ID told them as far as I knew he couldn’t unless I was suspected of a crime. And further I told him this was the first roadblock I had seen in 30 years. He said it was a safety check. I said bullsh1t, you know what this is. Then I asked who sent him here, he told me the Feds, he was a county cop. He was embarrassed. Here’s my ID, I aint got time for this bullsh1t, I told him.
Pure intimidation, I knew this was coming when I saw the camera behind 2 inches of bulletproof glass, he who pays the piper calls the tune. They are not even hiding it here. Good Luck in your town.
We are far from done anywhere in the middle east with respect to SAMs (MANPADs). And there have been choppers shot down with them. Just not in the numbers you expect.
With respect to CONUS military installations, I find it rather wry that they expect the worst of terrorist action, yet their surrounding civilian populations (and government) are not so concerned. Terrorist havoc in this country has always heretofore been largely aimed at the civilians save one or two examples.
I find it absurdly and ghoulishly comical that these installations go through all the machinations of stopping legitimate interaction in and around its confines, only to completely disarm its trained inhabitants.
You are misleading everyone at best. Requiring a BC and SSAn doesn’t imply you have a proper federal government-approved digital ID (as the premise of this thread indicates). Not even one iota.
Georgia is requiring you to prove you are not a friggin illegal alien. And I dare you to tell me that Georgia does not allow you to opt out of having your Social Security number being used as a driver’s license number.

Simple piece of aluminum foil, 2X the size of the license. Fold once. Problem solved.
If we are stuck with this damned thing, then let’s get states to REQUIRE the fed ID to vote in an election...if we can’t stop it, at least turn their own weapon back on them.

You all can KMA.. My Pennsylvania state ID has been good enough for many decades and it is still good enough now.
Drivers licenses are issued by the state. DHS, federal government should have no say in the matter.
I doubt that will completely stop all signals, but rather just attenuate them by a certain amount thus shortening the range at which it can be detected. Maybe you can shorten the range enough so that they have to be inside your pocket to detect it in your wallet. I would rather have something like a small drill and a drop of acid to kill the RFID chip or antenna.
So many things for the Tea Party to tear down, and quickly, after the mid-terms.
The best bet is probably for a conservative controlled House and Senate to change the budget from top-down to bottom-up.
That is, to require constitutional authority for all agencies for their very existence. Unless it is there, the assumption should be that they get NO funding, at all, except for nominal shut down costs.
If they are constitutionally authorized, then each agency will be reviewed and only its constitutional parts approved, skeletonizing those parts acting without authority.
Then, the temporary funding of those unconstitutional parts that would cause a public disaster or unconscionable harm unless they were wound down or replaced.
Enabling acts for the dismissal of “surplus” government employees, as well as defining what, if any, benefits they can keep.
Then separate those agencies that end or are severely downgraded as separate budget bills. Send them to Obama to veto or not, which doesn’t matter, because either way they are effectively unfunded. Give him at least the opportunity to claim credit for ending them.
I don’t suppose these cards will be used for voting??
