United States Secretary of State John Kerry has offered Israel the release of Jonathan Pollard, Channel 10 News reported on Friday.
According to the report, Kerrys offer was made as part of the discussions surrounding the upcoming planned release of 26 terrorists from Israeli jails as a gesture to Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Kol Yisrael radio, which also reported about Kerrys offer, said it relates to the fourth stage of the terrorist release and is conditional upon Israel agreeing to release Israeli Arabs who have committed acts of terrorism.
Israeli officials were quoted by both outlets as having said that they believe the idea has not been cleared with President Barack Obama and as such were doubtful that the offer would actually be implemented.
Pollards release has been tied in the past week with recent revelations by documents leaked by Edward Snowden that the United States conducted surveillance on Israeli leaders.

Bump.
That’s like saying that the USA is no more an ally to the UK or Canada or several other NATO members than China, Russia or Iran is to these same countries.
AND ... that certainly must be true about the USA towards its “so-called allies” (in name only and not ‘in fact’ - in other words) ... BECAUSE ... Obama is certainly going out of his way to PROVE THAT to these “in name only” Allies ... :-) ...
Believe me these “so-called” and “in name only” Allies are certainly believing EXACTLY AS YOU SAY ... but in regards to the USA ... LOL ...
I’ve seen the ISRAEL HATER lobby and it’s certainly very true. And there has been a recent SURGE too in their activity and trying to get people to “buy into” their anti-Israel rhetoric in order to weaken and finally hobble Israel’s ability to defend itself.
Thanks ... I’m liking Woolsey more all the time ... :-) ...

No, it's not. The U.S. has a mutual defense treaty with Great Britain and Canada that it does not have with China, Russia or Iran. This means the U.S. has a formal obligation to commit military resources to assist Great Britain and Canada when needed, but has no such obligation to Russia or China.
The U.S. has no similar obligation to Israel, either.
The problem is ... Obama is destroying any consideration of that today. I doubt Obama would ever back such treaties.
On the other hand, we did see Obama go out of his way to make it seem that he was “150%” [ LOL ] behind Israel, when he went over there. He went way, way out of his way to let the Jews and other Americans know here that the USA was absolutely going to let anyone destroy Israel and that the USA would be standing side-by-side with Israel and our common values.
Of course he was probably LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH ... but it’s quite amazing that he felt like he had to fool the public like that - things that he’s never expressed for any other nation.
I suspect Obama would not want to help Israel any more than he would honor any treaties ... BUT ... he’s obviously more scared of coming off wrong on Israel than any other nation in the world - and most likely because of the huge political support that Israel has (and has always had) in the USA - of course, aside from the small “we hate Israel” group which is always trying to divide the US and Israel,
Nonsense. Who “promised” them that?
It’s true, but I’m not a walking encyclopedia on the subject. I do know that Clinton was one. I would have to search out the other.
President has the power to pardon or commute the sentence. He doesn’t have to consult a foreign power to do it. If he wanted to do it he’d have done it.
No, he doesn’t have to consult with Israel, first. But how this has been used before, is like dangling a carrot in front of Israel (or rather the representatives of Israel). Then they “pull a Lucy” - like with Charlie Brown, just at the last minute - after the “carrot” has served it’s purpose ... :-) ...
I’ll ask you a third time. What would the US expect to get out of it?
Sorry, but spies make me very very angry.
Put Larry Franklin in a cell with those bad boys and they'd have a foursome for bridge.
Pollard was an American citizen then, and only an American citizen, when he committed his crimes, and then violated his plea agreement for those crimes, for which he is incarcerated, in America. America and its various states have the death penalty, irregardless of Israel’s only occasional use of it.
That comment about Israel not having the death penalty - was in reference to all the Islamic Terrorists that Israel has in captivity, even those who have killed Israelis. Israel does not have capital punishment even for those murderers.
Thanks for the clarification. That’s Israel’s business, and unrelated to Pollard then. I wouldn’t have recommended that way of doing things to Israel, but I wasn’t asked, and it’s their nation to run, including run into the ground.
